By using both spoken and signed language, they now have an option. Noisy restaurant? Sign. Working on English homework at home with mom? Talk. Out with a hearing friend who is still learning sign? Mostly talk. Out with Deaf friends? Sign. Hearing aid batteries died? Sign. Options!

Learning sign language also doesnβt mean a Deaf child canβt use spoken language too. If you DONβT teach them sign language, how will they be a part of the Deaf world? Where they could have access to thousands of people with similar life experiences?

Or they justify not learning sign language because βhow will you order at a restaurant?β β they obviously havenβt ever been with Deaf people at a restaurant before π€£ You point to what you want or type it out on your phone. Really not hard!

It makes me mad when people say βyour kid shouldnβt learn sign language because they canβt communicate in the real world!β Where do other Deaf signing people exist, if not in the real world? We get to make our own realities. I have 12 of my signing bffs living within a mile, thatβs my real world
