Omg. Omg. Omg. What the fuck is going on???
Wow. @samsanders.bsky.social interviewing Kate Hudson was incredible. Sam was so respectful while asking her about romcoms in her career. At the end, I could feel that Kate herself was a little surprised herself. play.cdnstream1.com/s/kcrw/the-s...
After watching Shrinking with The Confrontation, I learned my spouse hasn't seen Les Mis. So now we're watching the film version (which I've never seen before), and I'm having to explain why French peasants have Cockney accents.
How are others bringing enshittification into tech and society classes? Extending onto surveillance capitalism?
@vitak.bsky.social , did I defeat the final boss here?
And then when students had to do an activity where they came up with their own contextual integrity violation scenario, they were much better than in the past.
"So that's the exact same information, but the context and distribution are different."
"Let's then imagine that you work on The Ave (off-campus, not related to the uni) and somehow there is a tool whereby the Registrar sends your boss your class schedule so that your boss knows exactly when to schedule you." [they make faces at this]
What I said: "You all are registering for next term's classes, right? So imagine that you and your friends all exchange your schedules so that you can find a time/day that you all are available for lunch. That would make sense right?" [students nod]
I think that I defeated the final boss. I came up with a contextual integrity example that I feel like works perfectly.
Are anyone else's students super obsessed with Love Story: JFK Jr. And Carolyn Bisset?
So many questions about how things worked in the 90s!
This is the best Olympics Gala I've ever seen. We're now doing a Kpop Demon Hunters medley.
Is anyone else's Peacock somehow not showing the Skating Gala right now? #Olympicsproblems
Thanks!
I'm FINALLY trying to get into the groove of LinkedIn circa 2026.
It feels like it is basically a work-promotion/related exclusive social site and people actually post a lot of content on there? I'm not entirely sure how to describe it or think about it.
But I did port over all of my pubs, media.
Sometimes I think about how I'd like to teach an entire class on privacy and surveillance, but I feel like it would bum me out. My privacy/surveillance module in my tech + society class is my fave and students' fave. But 10 weeks of that might be hard, emotionally. How do others deal with this?
And already transcribed = chef's kiss for teaching! Thank you!
Thanks! This went out this morning/late last night, right? I listened to it but then went to go search for it, found the other (older) one. Thank you!
As everyone becomes more aware of surveillance and surveillance overreach, maybe this won't be so difficult?
Like it has been so normalized into their existence since they were little, that when I say anything about this, it is as if they cannot image how it would be possible to feel "safe" without this.
Anyone else that teaches privacy/surveillance to undergrads knows that it has been SO common for them to have been monitored by their parents with Life360, Find My..., etc., that it can be REALLY challenging to get them to see how this is problematic.
Also @reckless.bsky.social 's @theverge.com -cast from the other day was EXCELLENT on this, but might be a smidge too long for me to assign to students, given the other materials in the surveillance module.

In the recent past I've used the Nest Cam "Capture your baby's first steps!" promo material to illustrate this method of masking surveillance. But the moment that I saw the Ring + lost dog thing, I knew I had another one!
What's the BEST writing you've seen on this that I might assign to students?
For some this is well known, but not for all... www.nytimes.com/2026/02/13/t...
Weird moment. Trying to show my kids videos of Van cats, and trusting videos from 10+ years ago MORE because they're less likely to be AI.
Appropriate for Valentine's Day, I was interviewed by a student journalist (and former student) about online dating!

Claude Cowork is now available for Windows. Watch out world.
The podcast @tangoti.bsky.social is killing it recently. Every episode recently really got me thinking. I learned some new things in each episode.
This is an INSTANT add to the next time that I cover Section 230 in depth.
