Bots have made their way to Prolific experiments. Our lab has stopped online testing of adults entirely now for this reason - we want to know if what we study is real. Probably data collected 2-3 years ago are ok, but moving forward we just can't know. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

For a few very recent days the listening has been Britta Virves and Simple Things (2025). The album is great, the title track is somehow Stereolab, 90s alt rock bass, combined with mostly modern jazz stuff. Yah for music.

On little big III there is the track AshΓ©. Just excellent. I had to transcribe this one and learn the piano and bass. I almost never do that. Also check out the 2007 Terence Blanchard AshΓ©, it's Aaron Parks then too, just two different approaches to AshΓ©.

A standout track for me is Nemesis from Invisible Cinema in 2008. Parks is on Piano, the guitar work tells the story. That album is great, I guess it took me forever to learn about it...

Lot's going on, sharing a couple musicians that I've been coming back to again and again. First, is Aaron Parks. So many great Jazz and Alt-Jazz (is that a thing?) albums. Can't get enough of basically his albums...

Several people have mentioned online that they get terrible responses from online services such as Prolific, e.g., bots, LLM responses. I'm curious if anyone who has experienced that in a memorable way would mind sharing the details of their project (code, etc.).

I should also plug some new work with Randy Jamieson that appears in this issue, where we apply instance theory to account for a range of inference data (albeit very canned scenarios).

My new album "Ecphorizer" is starting to appear on streaming platforms, so far released on spotify and youtube. This one channels Ramsey Lewis sometimes, and synth-pop-jazz-instrumental other times (or at the same time). #music #synth #MusicianSky

I guess Halloween was the right time to release Album #4 (or at least upload it)..."Ecphorizer" by Homophony should be making its way through distrokid and to streaming services over the next week (maybe even today for apple music).

So if I all of a sudden I have a bloody nose and there is maybe a new building that appeared out of nowhere…I’ll have to wonder if you did the thing in the deprivation chamber 🫣

Totally, blew right through it, will probably check out more Blake Crouch (new to me)

some recent faves were Recursion (Blake Crouch) [episodic memory time travel fiasco page turner], Careless People (Sarah Wynn-Williams) [Facebook behind scenes awfulness], and Portalmania (Debbie Urbanski) [short stories with portals, black mirroresque]

Reading a lot more these days, settling into a pattern of buying real books from local bookstores, and also taking pictures of their tables of new books to motivate new reading horizons by checking out available new things from the library...and also using StoryGraph (app) for extra fun.

Thanks to AJP editor FΓ‘bio Leite, co-special editors Darryl Schneider and Frederick Verbruggen, and contributing authors we are at the proof stage for the Gordon Logan Festschrift special issue. Really nice collection of articles. I'll be excited to see it in print.

In memoriam: A tribute to Arthur. S. Reber (1940 – 2025) – BC Knowledge for Students

Art had an outsized impact, I got to meet him a couple times when he, as emeritus, came back to Brooklyn College to give talks. He was a longtime faculty member, chair, and beloved colleague at Brooklyn College. Colleagues here at BC put together this tribute:
