Very excited for @daniwelch.bsky.social, a union sibling who’ll be a progressive champion in Congress. She’s challenging @tomsuozzi.bsky.social, one of the worst elected Democrats, whose constituents are so unhappy with him he was recently forced to send out an apology email for voting to fund ICE.
I am running for Congress because we urgently need leaders who will stand up for our rights. We need leaders who understand that treating human beings like human beings is a moral obligation, not a political question. We need leaders who will work hard to help humanity, not serve the elite. I am a first-generation college graduate, the mom of a young daughter, a proud union member, and a public defender. I have personally experienced many of the challenges that working class people face, and I understand the urgency they demand.
SCOOP — Tom Suozzi has a Democratic primary challenger in the NY-3 congressional race.
Danielle Welch (@daniwelch.bsky.social), a public defender, has officially declared her candidacy.
Welch gave me this comment about launching her campaign:
I am committed to being accessible and communicating with residents in ways that are clear, respectful, and safe. After careful review, I will no longer actively post or engage on X (formerly Twitter) as of February 18.

The bill in the Senate this week that will attempt to interfere in DC's tax code is chaotic, bad, and should get voted down — but don't take our word for it.
Here's a running thread of the people and organizations who want Senators to VOTE NO on S.J. Res102: 🧵
Photos of Senator Lisa Murkowski and Senator Susan Collins sitting and speaking at the dais. Text reads: "S.J.Rs 102 is Anti-family, pro-Trump, and fiscally irresponsible. Attacking DC's local budget would hurt DC families while advancing Trump's agenda. Tell Senators this week to VOTE NO on S.J.Res 102. FreeDCproject.org/money"
Tomorrow the Senate is expected to vote on a bill aimed at interfering in DC's local tax code.
This move would thrust DC into financial chaos, hurting families and helping an administration that we know thrives on confusion and fear.
Tell key Senators today to VOTE NO: FreeDCproject.org/money
based on my lunch time visit there will be nothing left to go for...
Wow -- Fanone coughs "go fuck yourself" to Trey Nehls as Nehls blames Capitol Police leadership for January 6
Confirmed this morning that sledding is permitted at this time :)
Hoodie with a DC MPD graphic surrounded by a ring of acronyms for federal agencies: HSI, IRS, DEA, DHS, USSS, FBI, USCP, USMS, MTPD, CBP, ATF, and USPP.
But there’s no coordination with immigration enforcement, right @mayorbowser.dc.gov ? @cmbrookepinto.bsky.social ?
I know this won’t get a lot of attention beyond “well it’s New Hampshire, what did you expect” but I want you all to know there are a lot of kids and families of color here and we all deserve better than this kind of garbage representation
Minnesota Nice, though much mocked, usually by Minnesotans, is real. Maybe it’s the fact that MN was founded by immigrants who came from dark cold places and knew that the only way to live in a dark cold places is with each other’s aid. Maybe it’s just a sense of local pride…
Screenshot of a post on X by The Tennessee Holler (@T…) quoting Nikki Glaser: “The Golden Globe for best editing goes to… the Justice Department! And the award for MOST editing goes to CBS News.” The post adds: “Yes, CBS News: America’s newest place to See B.S. News.” Below the text is a video thumbnail showing a blonde woman in a red gown standing on a stage holding a microphone, with gold circular decorations on the backdrop and a speaker icon on the video.
Best line of the night, and so true.
Editorial in the National Catholic Reporter: "The vice president's comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith. His repeated attempts to blame Good for her own death are fundamentally incompatible with the Gospel."
Make it viral.
He's a good kid!
Ahead of tomorrow's D.C. Council vote on a bill delaying ranked-choice voting, five candidates in the Ward 1 race say lawmakers should "bolster the efforts of the Board of Elections rather than wasting time and sowing doubt about the rules of an election that is underway."
But he had inspiration to cancel out the disadvantage!
Let me be clear @wmatagm.bsky.social these folks are literally walking around trying to hand out Christian propaganda. We sang only non-religious uplifting songs and never try to stop anyone or give out "literature"
As someone who's been kicked out of a metro station for singing non-religious music, into the literal pouring rain, this is very frustrating unfair application of the rules.
Especially since these are your published rules. They said Metro Police said it was ok.
@wmatagm.bsky.social is love to know why this Christian group is allowed to sing and proselytize here at gallery place at 11:20am on a sat
Here's a fun fact for week 2 of the federal shutdown:
Number of appropriations bills passed by the House this year: 3
Number of anti-DC bills passed by the House this year: 7
Even when the House was in session, Republicans were spending time harassing DC instead of doing their jobs #FreeDC
Absurd to suggest that this is a new thing.
The red states have been taker states for decades. People in blue states already pay for the bad policies and low taxes of red states in all sorts of things like bailouts, federal spending, disaster relief. Just look at Texas.
A timely reminder—at least in the DMV and likely beyond—that you shouldn’t spend one cent more on the Washington Post than your tax dollars already cover through your local library. Here’s @dcpubliclibrary.bsky.social’s link to free WaPo access: www.dclibrary.org/research-and....
I hope you’re better soon! Do you or family need anything?
She said she wouldn’t rule on that back at the beginning.
Never thought I’d see the day when Brooke Pinto took a stand for the people of DC over @cmzparker5.bsky.social, but yesterday was that day. ZP denied primaries to independents, and tried to kill I-83 by study. I’m angry that it didn’t even take him one whole term to turn into McDuffie lite.
And, restaurant workers aren't the only tipped workers.
