I think both are fundamental features of fascism past and present actually. Fascists create mythologized versions of the past. The Nazis had an entire mythology of how the Aryan race made all major discoveries and inventions. Hindutva claims Muslims haven't been in India for centuries etc etc
Many have noted fascism's "cult of youth" and the role of nostalgia in far right propaganda. I'm sure there's some psychoanalysis of the sublimated or repressed childlike desires lost to adulthood in capitalism. Trump and Hegseth treating the Middle East as their sandbox with living action figures.

The argument about the rich fleeing Multnomah County due to this tax was dumb to begin with. The rich can already afford to live anywhere! They CHOOSE to live in expensive, high-tax areas because that's where jobs are and they like it there. Otherwise they'd all be living in South Dakota already.
It's still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that there are ~5,000 households in Multnomah County who make at least $500k PER YEAR. There is so much wealth in this country and in Portland. It's just not distributed evenly.

The funny thing is that you could *maybe* argue they aren't working class using an incredibly narrow and somewhat unorthodox definition favored by some Marxists, but invariably the people arguing they're not working class are always basing it on way flimsier arguments.
Teachers are working class because:
1a) they must sell their labor power to survive
1b) they do not own the means of production
2) their work is required for the social reproduction of the working class

💯 I live within walking distance of two of the best pizza places in the country, a phenomenal Mexican restaurant, multiple excellent Thai options, an adorable Korean cafe, a vegan Sri Lankan restaurant, etc. And I don't live in a unique or super trendy neighborhood.

The crucial insight of social reproduction theory is that these tasks are not independent of broader capitalist relations. The ways in which the working class is reproduced are part of capitalism, even if they are not always performed for a wage or a boss.
Birthing, raising, educating, and caring for the working class is crucial for the continued functioning of our economic system, but these tasks are often not paid.
