Really glad you think so - that's it's of some, even if tiny, use.

Ah thank you, @harlowstanza.bsky.social

I need to redraft this slightly and I'll submit to the poems for Palestine publication you alerted me to.

Hello #promptcombo #poemsabout crews πŸ‘‹πŸΌ Hope you are all having a super week. Sorry I've been largely absent this week – I'm deep in my reading period for @thewingedmoon.bsky.social Biophilia now (working also with @noelcowley.bsky.social). Reminder we are open until 2 July ☺️ xx

Mary Oliver talks about paying attention...

Take time to pay some attention to the care she has taken here with line breaks and enjambment...

Actually don't think I will, now, Julian, but it's enjoyable to do the promptcomboing "just" as a reader sometimes.
Perhaps a hyphen is required there to prevent the misconception that a new dance has been invented.

Truly beautiful love poetry, Julian. Indeed, we fixate on "occasion" dates, but which are the truly momentous ones? The lines, "Even the birth has shrunk as the utmost date, the love already decided" answer that question in this instance.

Favourite line is the red, white and blue collective noun.

Double-Decker Bus

Sometimes less obvious dates
matter most.

Tuesday, the first week, New Jersey.
I watch
from the hired car
a bunting of hefty Americans leave the bank you were in.
Each hoisting belts as a well-worn reflex,
spot-lit on steps
by the brazen late October sun.

Only then were we properly there.

Or that winter beach,
a time when every photograph counted.
Here you are:
turning away from me,
speaking with the rudely intruding ocean;
a nervous gust caught
gauche
under your long blue coat.

I asked you the following day.

Even the birth
has shrunk as the utmost date,
the love already decided.
It struck on the jolting bus,
after the phone call,
when we knew
for certain.

Upstairs,
front seat,
shaken and lifted
all the way there.

Hullo. My turn to host #PromptCombo for this week’s theme of #pivotpoint
Cite both when posting and tag me in too @hool415.bsky.social

Honoured to be part of this powerful synergy of global voices, writing on a theme of topical importance.

Thank you to EIC Rebecca Rijsdijk at Sunday Mornings at the River for including my poem 'Territorial' πŸ–€

His altruism I only found out about after he died. The documentary with A Ridgeley is really good isn't it.

Really great lyricist, yeah. And so many vocal performances I'll never tire of hearing. He had the loveliest smile as well.

Riiiiiight! I love that you used a song - and that song in particular, as I can see how apt it is - as part of the inspiration and as a layer of foundation for your poem. Thank you for the insight into your process of creation here.

John, this is a lovely poem, albeit filled with melancholy and now, having read your introductory note after I read the poem, the bittersweetness is that bit sharper.
Each Persephone return brings a songlike refrain. In fact I can hear these the whole lot as songlines. Is this a terza rima?!

There's still plenty to unpack from it on rereadings as well, I know.

You're a bloody incredible reader / performer of your poetry, Paul.

A very silly cutting for this week's #promptcombo whose host @thewombwellrainbow.bsky.social invites responses to #Limerick and/or #TheBestCake themes.

Excellent paradox in "under its command I'm forceful".
Of all the ways in which the dram affects people, surely "demanding all kinds of trinkets and entertainment" is at the far-delightful end of that particular spectrum πŸ™‚πŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒ

So it begins. The process of sending my #poetry collection out to publishers. If any of the small presses on here want to chat about the collection, are able to give any advice or would otherwise like to get in touch, then do please reach out.
