Over and over again it has been shown that expanding capacity inside the public system is more cost effective than contracting to private entities. And it comes with the ability to alter what the ORs are used for as needs and priorities change. We are doubling down on a failed strategy.

So why am I so skeptical? First, they didn't fulfill the promises made in the 2010 Patients First Review. Fool me once ... Second, the "plan" is really vague on the timelines for the proposed changes and innovations and that worries me. There's nothing that holds their feet to the fire ...

It's hard to disagree with much of what is in SK's Patients First plan. But that's because it very much resembles plans we've been seeing from prov govts (including this one) in the 25 year's since the Romanow Report. It says all the right things and paints a compelling picture of the future 1/2

BACK TO THE FUTURE DEPT: Today the Sask Party govt released its Patients First strategy. Sound familiar? That’s cuz in 2010 the Sask Party govt released the Patients First Review. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Next year, they’ll announce they’re creating 32 health districts …

My pet peeve in this area is the persistent hawking of dubious "wellness" quackery by otherwise respectable media outlets. I love the @crooked.com podcasts but really dislike their constant advertorials for scientifically questionable "health and wellness" products. It's so disappointing from them.

Thanks for this info, Laurie, it is appreciated. I had completely overlooked this aspect of NPs in the province.

02.03.2026 15:24 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

So who has been paying NPs already in the system? I’m not aware that any NPs were billing patients directly in SK. And does this mean we may see NPs on a fee- for-service schedule? That would be counterproductive wouldn’t it?

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux joins Liberal caucus | CBC News Edmonton MP Matt Jeneroux has crossed the floor to join the Liberal Party, nudging Prime Minister Mark Carney closer to the line of a coveted majority.

That 87% seems like a long time ago … no post-convention bump, polls look ever more depressing and now the LPC coax Jeneroux out of his self-imposed exile. Poilievre just cant catch a break www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

News to me too … but I was growing up in BC at the time and didn’t pay much attention to SK politics. If anything I was more interested in the Charter debate going on in β€˜80/81. (Yes I was a political nerd at 16) This is quite the story … it should be wider known

Alas, I don’t see govts on the left doing much to actually fix their systems. They keep applying band-aids but the patient needs surgery.

The death of public health care won't be in some 'big bang' privatization scheme of a provincial govt, but, rather, in the slow erosion of public confidence. If the middle class can't access care because they can't find a doc, then they will abandon the social contract that underpins the system.

Very true. Canadians' attachment to medicare is rooted in the belief that it will be there when they need it. The number of ppl who believe this is falling. If govts don't act to reverse this then ppl will, however reluctantly, look for alternative ways to get care, including private pay options.

For someone who likes to tell the feds to stay in their lane, Premier Smith is certainly one for swerving all over the highway. The fed govt appoints fed judges. Full stop. Next she'll demand a say in when and how the personnel at CFB Cold Lake can be deployed ... they're in AB after all! πŸ™ƒ

Annotating the Judge’s Decision in the Case of Liam Conejo Ramos, a 5-Year-Old Detained by ICE Our critic annotates the barbed wordplay of a decision challenging the Trump administration’s theory of executive power.

The judge’s decision to release 5yr old Liam Ramos and his father from ICE detention uses humour to make a deadly serious point.

Nation could really use Catherine O'Hara to deal with passing of Catherine O'Hara OTTAWA - Following the passing of screen and comedy legend Catherine O'Hara, nationwide reports indicate that the only thing Canadians could use to cheer them up from their grief is Catherine O'Hara.

There is a real through line in her career from SCTV to her work with Chris Guest in movies like Best in Show, For Your Consideration and Waiting for Guffman and then the huge success of Schitt's Creek. Lots of people could have been Kevin's mom in Home Alone, only O'Hara could have been Moira.
