I’m all about the blue book exams - my only worry is that their soft iPad hands will cramp up too easily. (Cranky Luddite is the new prof vibe I’m going for)

Yes, exactly. Trump uses it precisely because it carries this embedded meaning by the rest of us. Fascists aren’t outside of society, they’re just the funhouse mirror version amplifying its ugly parts

Curious how his base will feel after the mass deportations and 25% tariff on Mexican imports. Very hungry, I imagine. On the plus side, bread riots sometimes topple dictators …sometimes.

Columbia sent out this same cheerful holiday message just after the “Rules Administrator” (yes, a real position they named on purpose) sent out a vaguely threatening email warning students not to cause any “disruptions” during finals week.

Holiday hot take (that isn’t really that hot): buying a gift card is just giving the company an interest-free micro-loan.

At minimum, findings suggest courts could waive 100% of criminal fines & fees for anyone poor enough to qualify for public defense and get a nice drop in active warrants and jail bookings in return.

Criminal courts assess fines & fees against defendants, even when they’re obvs too poor to pay. What happens when that debt is relieved?
We found out with an RCT.
Turns out, debt relief reduces warrants by 30pp & jail bookings by 10pp, with no increase in crime.

Don’t worry, that kind of turn around would imply the review process respects your time or the pressures of early career publishing!

“How will you make sure the train doors aren’t closed on people?”
MTA: “We’ll have the conductors stick their heads out the window and shout at people.”
“And fare evasion?”
MTA: “Facial recognition cameras and robo-cops.”

Happy to announce (belatedly) that I'll be joining the University of Alberta in 2025 as an Assistant Professor! I am even happier about the job every time I read a U.S. news headline 🫠
