I think the only useful point of the ISA argument is interpellation. The importance of that is its reconciliation of Marxist and psychoanalytic determination of the subject. I definitely wouldnβt use Althusser for anything more than this one argument about the constitution of subject positions.

I've written my first textbook and have a new-found respect for the genre. It's actually quite painful. You have to mention a million things and move on. Quite a gear change from what we normally do, which is notice one single thing and then obsess about it for thousands upon thousands of words.

When I was growing up in Newcastle, you had few choices: Ted, mod, punk, metaller, or smoothie. It got more refined through the 1980s, with rockabilly, psychobilly, goth, etc. But, for us, smoothies were always simply people who blindly followed mainstream music and shopped in high street shops.
