It’s very weird seeing my face when scrolling through Bluesky… (also this, like many things, is awful.)

I think Gordon Bonnyman of the Tennessee Justice Center (who I cannot seem to find on Bluesky) wrote the example! Full disclosure, I used to be one of the ones updating the chart when I worked at NHeLP, but I didn’t know what gherkins were at the time so didn’t get the joke…

'Call This What It Isβ€”Theft': Republicans Approve Largest Medicaid, SNAP Cuts in US History | Common Dreams "The people stealing from Americans are not folks with tattoos and hoodiesβ€”it's people wearing suits and ties and congressional pins, sitting in this Capitol right now," said Rep. Maxwell Frost.

If enacted, the MAGA Murder Budget would slash roughly $1 trillion combined from Medicaid and SNAP, stripping health coverage and food from families to help fund trillions of dollars in tax cuts that would disproportionately benefit the wealthiest: www.commondreams.org/news/republi...

In the budget reconciliation bill, House Republicans are trying to cut SNAP by $295 billion. This would cut it in third in what would be by far the largest SNAP cut in history.

This would rip food assistance away from millions of people, including households with children as young as 7 years old.

Not the biggest part of it, but Fig. 2 also overly restricts the CDC list of high risk conditionsβ€” e.g. it says neuro conditions are limited to only dementia and Parkinson’s, when the actual CDC list just puts those as examples. Lots of people (myself included) with rare conditions will be left out.

Ugh. God is a Republican I guess.

I interned at HRSA for two summers (and almost worked there until the Trump I hiring freeze). I’m heartbroken for the good people that work there, and our country.

Too many Democrats spent a good part of last year demonizing campus protesters, refusing to acknowledge Palestinians as humans, and painting people who want an end to Israel's genocidal actions as terrorists.

Trump is pouring on the gas, but Dems lit the match and threw in some logs.

How Congress Could Force $1.1 Billion in Cuts on Washington, D.C. District leaders say that a proposed cut to the city budget, part of a plan to avert a federal government shutdown, is unfair. The city raises most of its own money but cannot control how it is spent.

Senseless pain is about to be afflicted to D.C., a place that has no congressional representation. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/u...

House spending bill would lead to $1B in D.C. cuts. Here’s what that means. The bill, also known as a continuing resolution, now moves to the Senate, where D.C. officials hope Democrats will help them defeat the measure.

It is honestly wild to me that Republicans cooked up a bill that would prohibit D.C. from spending more than $1 billion of its own budget, devastating our city services out of pure spite, *and Senate Democrats might actually vote for it.* Utterly appalling. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Jewish groups targeted Columbia grad Mahmoud Khalil β€” then ICE arrested him Pro-Israel Jewish groups targeted Mahmoud Khalil, a recent graduate of Columbia University, days before ICE agents arrested him.

As a Jewish person it is so uniquely painful to exist in a world where Jews are the ones making lists of people for the government to target.

How Elon Musk Executed His Takeover of the Federal Bureaucracy (Gift Article) The operation was driven with a frenetic focus by the billionaire, who channeled his resentment of regulatory oversight into a drastic overhaul of government agencies.

This is a very well reported story. But let's not be distracted from the big picture here. Lots of people are going to die because of DOGE's recklessness. Lots of others are going to live significantly worse lives. This isn't a video game. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/28/u...

Republicans want one thing and it’s fucking disgusting (tax cuts for the rich funded by healthcare cuts for the poor)
