People are always telling me I should write about all the great concerts I went to in my teens—most of which I snuck into. Here’s the first, about John Hammond and Little Richard. Enjoy!

Young Arrow nine years ago today, just after she joined our family.
Throwback Thursday: On the Greenland icecap, 1999.
Happy Birthday to author Stephen Bodio, one of my favorite nature writers. Here’s a picture I took of him with his thirsty long-haired dachshund about 25 years ago in New Mexico. Hope you have a great day, Steve.
It was 22 years ago today that Bobby Harrison and I saw an Ivory-billed Woodpecker at Bayou de View in Arkansas.
Are you lookin’ at me? 🦅
A Bald Eagle I saw a couple of days ago while I was driving on a backroad in Upstate New York.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Cruising with Jeff Beck on the drive home this morning. I go through a major white-out about halfway through this. Glad to be home now. 😊
I finally had a chance to see the film version of Helen Macdonald's bestseller "H is for Hawk" yesterday at a movie theatre in Ithaca. Claire Foy was excellent in the lead role, and I really enjoyed it. Here's a link to a review I wrote about the book several years ago: tinyurl.com/fm8rtnfa
Happy Birthday to Arrow, the wonder dog. She’s now nine years old.
“Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…”
The moon a couple of nights ago, shortly before the rains came.
Should be an interesting Halloween night—40 degrees Fahrenheit with high winds and a 45 percent chance of rain. 🎃 Of course, I remember taking our kids out trick or treating a few times in howling blizzards, where you couldn’t see their costumes because they were wearing parkas.
Thirty-five years ago this month I headed east from sunny California and never looked back—except for on a few frigid days with blizzards and deep snow! 🥶
Happy Birthday to my wife Rachel and our youngest daughter Gwen, both born on this day—several years apart. 😊

The moon last night.
A sad anniversary: Martha, the world's last known Passenger Pigeon (at left), died on this date in 1914 at the Cincinnati Zoo. I photographed her and another of her species several years ago at the Smithsonian's bird collection in Washington, D.C. ©Tim Gallagher

Throwback Thursday: My wife Rachel and daughter Railey trying to shelter from the rain behind one of the ancient standing stones at Avebury, England, years ago.
A children’s book about two kids named Bobby and Tim who saw an Ivory-billed Woodpecker. Sounds familiar.
