A fun romp through the shared history of bicycles and feminism! #bikesky

A selfie of Stephen riding a bicycle, wearing a blue cap under a bright yellow helmet, smiling against a blue sky marked by the faintest whispy clouds.
A poor attempt to photograph two panniers full of groceries over my shoulder while riding down the street on my bike
Way too nice out to not take the bike out today! Even made it to the grocery store on the way back.

Taking it for a spin for the camera:
Aaaand itβs finished! Really pleased how the glaze layering turned out, especially around the edges.

An orange Home Depot bucket sits atop a large ceramic-top hotplate stirrer, a teensy vortex seen in the surface suggesting that stirring is somehow happening.
Prepping 2x20kg of an aqueous formulation base when you usually outsource to a kilo-lab is NOT fun! My experience prepping buckets of ceramic glazes certainly came in handy.
You CAN stir 5-gallon buckets on a magnetic stirrer if itβs big enough, but I donβt recommend it.

This need to be called out at perpetuating sexist policies that privilege bikers without child carrying, errand running responsibilities. Caltrain would never consider banning kids from trains, why is it ok to make it impossible for parents who travel bike to use the system?
Meet an animal that makes even me shudder: Cone Snails. #LetsChangeThat
There is so, so much to bemoan about this iteration of our federal government but I am glad to be represented by Rep. Simon who understands the brief
One was a physician (allegedly [one of?] the first to bring modern EKG practices to Berkeley, CA)
The other was an electrical engineer in radio electronics (initially SIGINT surveillance equipment flown in U2 spyplanes over the Eastern USSR, later as a domestic telecom tech company founder)
My first paying job was mixing colors of gray and brown paint to match the façades of the brownstones of the Upper West Side
And the final dip for the top coat of Koke Green!
After drying, pouring the inside, and peeling the tape:
First dip of two: a foundation of Koke Black
A geometric clay vase sits on a table at Kollektiv Clay Studio surrounded by plastic ready to cover it for a slow dry.
The same geometric vase after the first firing, with blue tape placed along the vertical edges as a resist for the glaze application.
Really excited about my latest project. I almost never make vases, as my cats chomp any plants they can get at!
The form is a stretched dodecahedron, so I made a custom slab bevel cutter to help the faces cleanly meet at the edges with a 116Β° dihedral.

βLooking at a 3-mile radius from the downtowns of 142 US cities, roughly 66,000 acres are consumed by highways β land representing an untapped development potential of more than half a trillion dollarsβ¦that fallow land equates to about $5.2 billion in foregone property tax revenue every year.β

My friends brought some human seafood (red squid and glass shrimp) treats back from Niigata, and while they were too salty for routine cat consumption, I HAD to share a little with M&M:
oh, βmadβ not βMadsβ
A black cat named Morgana contorts herself into a pretzel of limbs, teeth, and claws as she wrestles with a ranbow-colored ribbon toy stretching out of frame
A tabby cat named Merlin lounges on the floor as he munches on the end of a rainbow-colored ribbon toy heβs captured with his paws.
Unseasonably warm February #caturday precludes the usual cuddle puddle. But lazy floor plays with the rainbow ribbon received the monch of approval from Morgana & Merlin! #CatSky #CatsOfBluesky
The entire Democratic strategy debate β "moderate" or move left? fight or compromise? β is based on a misreading of data. Voters don't think Dems are too progressive; they think Dems are weak. The actual math on what to do about this isn't even close!
