βTikTok collects sensitive and potentially embarrassing information about you even if you've never used the app. Over the past week, I've watched websites sending TikTok data about cancer diagnoses, fertility and even mental health crises. It's part of a tracking empireβ www.bbc.com/future/artic...
People ask me "why kelp is important". There's not enough space for all the reasons here but big reasons are that kelp can grow faster than any other any species fixing CO2, providing shelter and food. Urchins eat kelp plus they're "messy" eaters so they feed other species nearby.

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the TaΓnos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
Blacksky @blackskyweb.xyz now has its own servers running the network
This means they're able to run their own feature development and moderation policies, while still connecting to Bluesky through the shared Atmosphere network!
s/o to @rude1.blacksky.team and the blacksky team for amazing work
Some alternative web infrastructure in Europe:
- Bunny.net
- Quic.Cloud
- Myra Security
- IONOS
european-alternatives.eu
But there's still a market gap between these offerings and the dominant infrastructure. That's a huge development opportunity.
I can't believe the video I watched today.
But also, given the way the government is spinning the news and investing in controlling social media, Europe really needs to invest in its web infrastructure and developing social media.
Think about how much of the web relies on Cloudflare and AWS.
One of the reasons why Elon Musk and other folks on the right want to shut down Wikipedia (or "compete" with it). It's a good platform for regular folks to accumulate data, even keep track of all of this administration's atrocities in real time. Great work
If you feel stuck, itβs usually not because you lack answers.
Itβs because you havenβt written down the right questions yet.
Writing questions is underrated product work.
It turns uncertainty into something you can actually move.
Clarity isnβt found. Itβs drafted.

Screenshot of FB Post: "Peaceful Ethnic Cleansing" is a set of Nazi policies designed to turn the USA into a whites only territory. This set of policies was designed by Jeff Sessions. Most sane white people would never accept ethnic cleansing, because they know where it leads. Peaceful ethnic cleansing softens the message, and boils the frog slowly. But even the term peaceful ethnic cleansing was off-putting so they stopped saying it. Until this administration, most people (including me) dismissed peaceful ethnic cleansing as a delusional racist's pipe dream. It would never happen, because the policies are so extreme. Most Republican Senators think this plan is crazy. But almost all of them are spineless, and so will confirm Jeff Sessions, the architect of these policies. Here are some of the policies: * Consolidate power from the 3 branches of government under the Executive, to make the rest of the policies possible. * End all non-white refugee and asylum programs * Stop legal immigration from Muslim countries, especially Iran * Stop legal immigration from Latinx countries, especially Mexico * Stop legal immigration from Asian countries, especially China and India * Make H1B visas harder to acquire from non-white countries
Screenshot of FB Post: * Make H1B visas harder to acquire from non-white countries * Increase the reasons for revoking permanent residence (Green cards) for non-white people. * Increase the reasons for deporting non-white undocumented people * Dismantle the Voting Rights Act, and Federal election oversight * Criminalize assisting black voters * De-criminalize white on non-white hate crimes * Increase the reasons for imprisoning non-white people (criminalize protest, make resisting arrest a hate crime) * increase the detention capacity of ICE and the prison system to hold an additional 11 - 20 million people At this point you will have a few million people in detention centers and prisons. Most of these people will be undeportable... Black, Latinx, Middle Eastern, Asian, but US citizens. What to do with these people? Everyone seems to forget that the Holocaust started out as "peaceful" ethnic cleansing as well. All ethnic cleansing campaigns turn violent at some point.
Screenshot of FB post: The Executive and Legislative branches of the government now move as one unit. The last stumbling block on this plan is the Judicial branch. Gorsuch is a Trojan horse. He looks moderate enough to Democrats on women's rights issues, but he supports this plan. Most importantly, the last Attorney General resisted this plan and was fired. The incoming Attorney General designed it. There isn't complete agreement among Nazis on this plan. Example open questions: * Are Jews OK? [Yes | No | Only Jared ] * Should we encourage European immigration? [Yes | No] * Is Russia OK? [Yes, white! | No, commies, still!]
Screenshot of Tweet: Mekka Dec 18, 2019 Yes, that's horrific. But our twisted democracy has allowed the people that wrote that to get their leader elected president. He's running their playbook. Phase 1 is complete. Y'all need to catch up to black folk. This running 6 to 12 months behind is becoming a problem. Mekka x7 @mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io @mekkaokerekebye What're Black folk saying today? * If you don't stop the GOP from deregistering /disenfranchising us, Dems will lose in 2020. And y'all will act surprised. Again. * 2020 Trump is gloves off, Phase 2. * Buttigieg is trash * Biden is trash, but we know what's in the can Dec 18, 2019

What your favourite writing tool? Does it change depending on your objective?
I find the way writing apps are designed vastly changed my output for daily writing:
Flowstate- honest, intuitive, surprising writing.
IA writer- > web content and more structured content.
Obsidian- linking research

Designing a card game similar to Pokemon, but for kids to βcollectβ cards if they eat fruit or veggies and then you can battle your cards. Iβm not sure if this is the dietician approved way, but the idea is to put new foods on my picky eaters radar in an opt-in, low pressure way.

I worry that we are getting ever more isolated by being trained to regard the act of thinking, taking in information and communicating as inconvenient chores, over getting shallow, quick wins.
And they will be shallow, because the test of ideas is that they survive a little pushback.
In a similar way, the very rapid productivity effects of Ai has a similar effect on communication.
The "expected user experience" of giving an output is to be rewarded with a result. Not to discuss, take in information, collaborate, ideate together, listen etc. 2/3
I think a lot about unintended consequences.
A while ago, there was an article describing how productivity culture had the knock-on effect that many kids didn't see a value to reading except to get information or plot summaries. 1/3
