I think THE AUDIENCE prefers audio. The algorithm and the advertising prefers video

06.03.2026 21:52 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Basically I think a lot of people are going to run right off that cliff of the money bleeding out when the organic growth plateaus, and then they’ll fall like the coyote in roadrunner when the YouTube shifts the algo

06.03.2026 20:06 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I really think the audio industry has done an incredibly dumb Faustian pact with video because the discovery is better, but I am SURE:

a.) those platforms will turn on them because they always do;

b.) the organic growth from algorithmic video will not make up for the increased cost of production;

Saw a video podcast where the audio mix was just absolutely horrible.

Now, I am an audio guy, BUT I’m also a total philistine idiot who used to insist our engineers listen to things on a car speaker through Apple Podcasts at 1.5x speed (ie like a real audience).

So trust me, this was SHITTY.

(Hunger Games is *exactly* 100k words btw which feels like it was a target or max because it’s so dialled in)

06.03.2026 17:11 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I agree with Marie here and ALSO think a lot of fiction is just a touch too short because of these conventions.

90k max is where most genes sit now and thats shorter than the Hunger Games which is a *short* book.

Maybe you're too cool to be involved with model boats, but that probably means you've never seen a Russian submarine being chased by an angry Moorhen:)

If you need a timeline cleanse you should know that Dexter Sol Ansell who plays Egg on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms went to school as Egg for World Book Day.

Americans: we live in a fallen stateβ€”embroiled by sin, cheating, lying, and evil. You cannot trust anyone, not even those who claim to know you best

Canadians: I love my neighbors and my friends!

Grandpa Scotland blowing all his Lockheed test pilot money on a failed illegal betting operation was STILL a sensitive subject with the grandparents in the 1990s. His position was legalisation in the 1960s was the problem!

God really difficult to look at fiction charts over the last 12-18 months and conclude anything other than men have stopped reading fiction.

"School wars": Moral panic or self-fulfilling prophecy? The Metropolitan Police say they still haven't encountered a single incident relating to the viral red vs blue school wars trend. So is the threat real? And are parents unduly worried?

I’ve been obsessed with the β€œschool wars” meme, what it says about London, the very real fears of parents, algorithmic school rumours… and why almost no other news outlets have just sent people to stand and see what happened. Here’s where we’ve ended up. www.londoncentric.media/p/school-war...

I wonder if there’s a sort of Banzai/Mark Thomas esque entertainment concept in FOLK JUSTICE. Definitely a youtube channel that could get you out in prison:)

Yeah. I think there’s broadly a lack of empathy about how you enter radicalisation spirals abd get pulled into the orbit of conspiracists and wellness grifters

And distrust can be a learned, protective trait among historically marginalized communities due to past and ongoing experiences of racism, discrimination, and unethical medical practices.

It’s not as simple as β€œthey are just dumb and stop believing in science”

I’ve read compelling studies on anti-vaccine women that there’s a strong correlation with those beliefs and having bad experiences with medical care around reproductive health and chronic pain. The loss of trust comes from lived experience.
