World Book Day was so special for me.
I went to two local primary schools & a nursery in Solihull to read my children's stories to little listeners. It was great to hear the children laugh & see them listening so attentively. ❤️ 📚

“High standards and inclusion are two sides of the same coin.”
After reading the white paper carefully and discussing it during a SENCo forum this week, I’ve written on the shift in language, and what some of this might mean for schools in practice.

Oracy is such an important element of any effective classroom. Making sure pupils feel safe to voice their opinions is crucial. Co-create ground rules for oracy like our example 🗣️💬⬇️

I'm using LinkedIn a lot more, but I can understand why that platform isn't for everyone. There's so many platforms now, I need to think about which ones I find most useful. I do agree with you about Bluesky! 👏
Asking questions about a topic BEFORE you introduce pupils to it, works.
Help pupils find the connections they already have to link with the new content, by asking pre-questions.

Here's a poem, for World Book Day, from my collection 'Snap!' which brings together lots of the stories that young children might know. A chance to have a bit of fun and remind themselves of them today!
I liked the idea to change it to a pajama day - because who doesnt love reading in their pajamas? Kids still get the heady excitement of a non-uniform day, but no costumes needed and the focus remains on the actual reading
I asked a child what World Book Day is about, they said dressing up.
The child was only little so it's easy to understand why they would think that. You're right the focus needs to be on the books, other stuff really distracts.
Bluesky is becoming a genuinely collegiate corner of the internet for education and adjacent professionals.
Less performative noise, more thoughtful challenge, shared learning and proper networking. It feels like a healthier staffroom after the bell.
Hope it keeps growing and deepening.

World Book Day ❤️ 📚📖 I'm grateful for publishers trusting me, editors & illustrators supporting me & readers for taking the time to read my books.
I'm visiting two primary schools & a nursery today for story time to read my children's books. 👏
Another great speaker in the Maths strand at TTR Connect - Amber Hadley will be discussing oracy in the Maths classroom. Teachers - Get your tickets for Connect 2026 here, Saturday 14th March in Manchester and it's free >>> www.ttradio.org/connect2026
Such an important point. I think it's a long-held misconception about teachers 'clocking off' when the bell rings. The reality is very different. Another point is we can't accept it's part of the day job, we need to treasure teachers & look after them! I will listen to the episode fully, thank you!
I'm fully booked up for March 5th 2026! I will be visiting two local primary schools & nursery for an author event, reading my stories to children. If you would like a visit to your school please get in touch to find out more! #yearofreading #worldbookday ❤️ 📚
A summary poster explaining the key features of Responsive Revision: Retrieve. Diagnose. Act. Repeat.
It’s heartbreaking when students revise hard & it doesn’t pay off. A lot of study strategies feel productive: rereading, highlighting & copying. But familiarity is not evidence of learning.
Responsive Revision:
Retrieve → Diagnose → Act → Repeat.
Close gaps through targeted retrieval practice.
Check. Adapt.

"Many misunderstand, so pause and fix.
Some are unsure, so adapt support.
Most understand, so extend and support."
MrBeast says students could learn more in 5 hours than 8 with better videos.
Sounds intuitive.
Also wrong.
Learning ≠ watching something that feels clear.
A short rant on a very familiar myth

International Women's Day is 8 March 2026. I've written a book aimed at empowering women in education. Encouraging more female leaders, writers, keynote & panelists. Also offering support for working Mums in education & increasing representation. This is my contribution to an important discussion.

A great blog post by maths teacher Harry Zafar. He shares how he uses Gemini AI to create multiple choice questions in maths to reveal misconceptions, alongside mini whiteboards to check for understanding. Worth a read! open.substack.com/pub/harryzaf...
A lot of heated ‘battle’ talk about parents vs schools/teachers on the SEND reform
It’s maybe worth reflecting that some people are both
Insulting me as a teacher isn’t getting rid of an enemy, it’s attacking a person you claim to speak for
This is a really good point. One of the most powerful things we could do to be more inclusive would be to reduce curriculum size so those that find learning harder get more time to learn the most important bits.

Write your book, your way.
💬Do some of your pupils struggle to keep up with their peers?
💬Do some children disengage with the task before they've begun?
These are the signs of a working memory failure. Check out our sketchnote for what you can do ⬇️
