Over 40% of global shipping by volume exists to move fossil fuels from one place to another.
A huge share of the world's maritime infrastructure has been built around a system that is going to change dramatically as renewable energy and electrification displace fossil fuels.
What was true about Bay du Nord in 2022 is still true today
-a carbon bomb = 100 coal-fired power plants
-a deep-water disaster waiting to happen & a threat to fisheries and ocean biodiversity
-it won't lead to long-term prosperity or jobs

Canadian oil profits for the Big 4 are set to soar as the US/Israel strikes on Iran rattle global markets. π
While prices spike, Cdn producers could reap a "risk premium." We should tax these windfall profits to invest in future-proof, climate-resilient energy.
We need a windfall tax on O&G now.
World Energy was at the forefront of a push to develop #hydrogen in NL - a foolish project that would waste huge amounts of electricity to ship hydrogen to Europe
Now the consortium is struggling - and has no money to repay taxpayers the $50 million that was lent by Export Development Canada
Just the Globe and Mail helping the fossil fuel industry conduct its war profiteering...
Whoβs rushing to buy Canadian oil and gas? Not Europe, says high-level EU diplomat
βOur policy is to give priority to clean energy sources, because we are on target to comply with our 2050 targets"
From @meyer.bsky.social
Public Service Announcement: When the price of gasoline jumps this week, remember it was refined from oil (mostly Canadian) produced weeks ago, only 2% of which comes from the Middle East. It's a policy choice, not 'market forces', that explains why you'll pay more (and oil profits will soar). /2
"To put it bluntly, the LNG industry is not a growth engine, but a mechanism for redistribution of B.C. ratepayersβ dollars to foreign shareholders, and of B.C.βs industrial economy towards LNG."

Today, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments or CPPIB) released its Third Quarter Fiscal 2026 results.
The quarterly results show that CPPIB made nearly $2 billion in fossil fuel investments between October 1 and December 31, 2025.

Hey @anitaoakvilleeast.bsky.social is Canada also going to provide oil & aid to support Cubans as Trump tries to starve a nation?
Or was Carney's talk at Davos about supporting countries against the US complete bluster?
The US cutting off oil to Cuba is truly one of the most depraved acts it is possible to imagine. Hospitals will close, food production will collapse, people will starve. It is urgent for US citizens, and every sane person, to oppose this barbarism with all their might.

Strong environmental laws depend on strong public scientific capacity. Cutting ECCC science & policy capacity weakens enforcement, accountability, & the protections Canadians rely on for clean air, water, and a stable climate.
Carney's decision to scrap EV standard is a huge setback, no matter what his cheerleaders say
While the rest of the world advances on EVs, Canada continues to lag behind at the very short-sightes behest of auto lobbyists

Last week, the govt finally admitted they cut public $5 billion from the Canada Public Transit Fund.
Without predictable federal funding, cities will be forced to cut service or raise fares outcomes that disproportionately hurt low-income riders.
From me on behalf of @environmentaldefence.ca:
Governments have been fighting over definitions for nearly two decades...as a distraction from actually phasing them out. The WTO has had a clear definition for years

Major cities around the world are banning fossil fuel advertising
Canadian cities should follow this smart trend

What about this oped are you praising? A call for more oil exports or more defence spending? Either way, It's disappointing from someone who claims climate credentials.
