Given the steady drum beat of Islamophobia in Australia - one that's grown to a crescendo in the months since Bondi - this kind of thing is hardly a surprise. In fact it's just the tip of the iceberg of the daily threats and attacks the Muslim community has faced.
Oppose the US war machine! Close Pine Gap and all other US bases. Break the US Alliance. Ditch AUKUS and spend those hundreds of billions on housing, healthcare and education instead!
The US, with the full backing of the Australian government, uses facilities like Pine Gap to surveil and wage war on people across our region and the world. It's a physical and moral scar that should never have been established in the first place.

The notion that genocidal Israel has anything except regional domination on its mind is farcical. Netanyahu is in trouble and wants more war. Killing more than 60,000 Gazans isn't enough for the Israeli state.

The attack on the Hanukkah celebration in Sydney last night was horrifying. The Socialist Party expresses our sympathy for all those affected and for the families and loved ones of those who were killed or injured.
The Socialist Party is multicultural and has many Jewish members. We have always, and will always, stand for a world without antisemitism, racism and prejudice. No cultural, religious or ethnic group in Australia should be subject to this kind of violence. The Socialist Party is also alarmed by the attempt to weaponise these terrible events. The comments by Benjamin Netanyahu and Jillian Segal that blame the movement against genocide in general, and the March for Humanity specifically, are disturbing.
The movement to end the genocide in Gaza has, with the active participation of many Jewish people, always stood clearly against anti semitism. We are also concerned by the atmosphere of Islamophobia and anti-migrant racism that is being whipped up. In the wake of this tragedy at Bondi, we reaffirm our commitment to a world free from violence and injustice.
