Whoa! Congratulations, @wardjenkins.bsky.social !
What a cool spin-off concept.
If I've got this right, #yyc has got some water restrictions coming up on March 9. Planned restrictions, which means we have time to prepare! So pretty soon we're going to start seeing some messaging from @calgary.ca to help citizens get ready, right? @jeromyyyc.bsky.social @daorcey.bsky.social
I feel like none of this nonsense would be happening if weβd just have let Joan Rivers keep the Tonight Show.
Ericβs map of choice cuts of Alberta map. Northern bit is chuck & brisket. Central Alberta is the loin and Rockies/foothills are the flank. I live in the rump!
Thank you, kindly! Greetings from the rump!
Ericβs cartoon Panel 1 Prime Minister Carney, prancing up the steps to the podium with a big smile and noodle arms, with the words noodley noodley trailing behind him. Panel 2 Prime Minister, Kearney, at the podium, very serious face. βTo name reality to build our strength at home to act together That is Canadaβs path. Our elbows are up. Our elbows are strong.β Panel 3 Prime Minister Carney, prancing down the steps from the podium with a big smile and noodle arms, with the words noodley noodley trailing behind him.
Noodley noodley

Justβ¦wow.

Weird emotions today as we learn that Neil Sedaka has passed away.
This is Arlo, our retired greyhound. βArloβ, of course, isnβt his original name. According to his paperwork, his racing name was βNeil Sedakaβ. RIP human Neil Sedaka.
Edit: TO CLARIFY OUR DOG IS FINE
Checks for 4K remaster of McTrowe catalog. βDang.β

Danielle Smith confirms that if Alberta separatism petition drive succeeds, the independence referendum will be on October 19 ballot too. So expect (at least) 10 ballot measures coming this fall.
YOU LIKE DEMOCRACY? WHY DON'T YOU TRY SMOKING AN ENTIRE PACK OF DEMOCRACY?

@sphillipsab.bsky.social Time to make some buttons for @zainvelji.bsky.social?
I donβt know who needs to hear this, but all permanent residents and temporary workers in Canada pay both federal and provincial taxes.
Hey itβs me, a racialized person born in Alberta to an immigrant parent, with trans and queer friends, saying that the UCP does not get to determine who belongs here. All of us, and the Albertans yet to come, deserve to be here. And we must stand with Indigenous people to honour treaty promises.
A must read here for all Canadians, but especially Albertans via @emmettmacfarlane.com

"βAlbertaβsβ taxpayers are like every other taxpayers in the country: they pay provincial taxes, and they pay federal taxes. Within Alberta, the provincial government redistributes that money, literally βsubsidizingβ rural areas, people who need healthcare, etc. The money we all pay into the federal level does the same thing.

Ericβs black and white one panel cartoon. Daniel Smith, wearing a Team USA hockey jersey with the number 5, is at a podium with a handful of notes. Podium says Neighbour Schmeighbour. Header says: Premier Smith lays out the case for her new racist nonsense. Smith, looking over her reading glasses:β if you need proof that immigrants are all sleazy and scheming opportunists, you need only look at this (Smith deliberately mispronounces Sam Mraicheβs name phonetically) guy I just learned about! Do you have any idea how much it cost to dispose of all that bleeping Tylenol??
Smith is at it again.

And thanks to @duanebratt.bsky.social for weighing in on the part here that i found most interesting, after months of speculation about a referendum in Alberta... but a referendum on separatism.
There is so much to unpack from Smith's TV address. It was a firehose of information. But one thing I need to emphasize. A referendum question to introduce an Alberta head tax on immigration!
Iβll admit, at first glance, I read this as: β86% of southern Albertans have same family doctorβ.
To prebunk what we can expect to hear tomorrow:
π΄ Immigrants pay provincial taxes.
π΄ Many non-immigrants don't.
Cutting off immigrants' access to public services isn't about protecting taxpayers.
It's about picking and choosing who is worthy of healthcare and education.
