New postdoc position at Cornell! This is a bit of a unique one: It's a teaching postdoc focused on integrating active learning strategies into psychology courses (including one of my own). Should be a lot of fun!

I have proposed that we make a data sharing plan part of IRB approval. Progressive IRBs would make sharing the default, and PIs would have to make a specific case for restricting access to the data, and demonstrate why that is more ethical overall than sharing it.

I'm not disputing any of that. But the way in which the data are gatekept from peers, who are just as well qualified as the original collectors, often goes well beyond what is reasonable. It also allows authors to get away with fraud, far too often.

Causal inference for psychologists who think that causal inference is not for them
Correlation does not imply causation and psychologists' causal inference training often focuses on the conclusion that therefore experiments are needed—without much consideration for the causal infer...
You need to bring in the same toolkit as in studies that try to establish causality without randomization.
I know it sounds unfair, but I don’t make the rules. These situations are instances of post-treatment bias, if you want to read up on it as a psychologist:

I reviewed 5+ fMRI papers on response inhibition within roughly the last year, and the same points come up over and over again. So I wrote a short note last week entitled "The unique limitations of BOLD-fMRI in the study of response inhibition". You can read it here.

Neuroscience has a species problem
If neuroscience is serious about building general principles of brain function, cross-species dialogue must become a core organizing principle.
"The problem is not simply that cross-species translation is difficult; it is that the field has largely accepted this difficulty rather than treating it as a central scientific challenge. Neuroscience has also struggled to confront the fact that different species often tell different stories."

YES.
Clustering has become a huge fad in psychology as well, I see it everywhere.
