Par Tatiana Giraud, biologiste de l'évolution, directrice de recherche au CNRS au Laboratoire Ecologie Société Evolution - ESE (CNRS/UPSaclay/AgroParisTech, Gif-sur-Yvette) et membre de l'Académie des Sciences.   Préface de Valérie Masson-Delmotte.   A travers 200 schémas simples et précis, La biodiversité en infographie met à la portée de tous l'état des connaissances scientifiques actuelles sur la biodiversité.   La biodiversité n'est pas simplement un catalogue des êtres vivants sur terre, une liste de grands mammifères, d'oiseaux ou de papillons, identifiés et comptabilisés. Parmi les 2,15 millions d'espèces connues, les plantes et les animaux ne représentent que la partie visible d'un extraordinaire ensemble, en grande majorité composé de micro-organismes imperceptibles à l'oeil nu, mais dont le rôle est vital. Véritable équilibre dynamique, la biodiversité se maintient en évoluant sans cesse, grâce à des interactions multiples et complexes dont nous dépendons pour notre santé et même pour notre survie.   Aujourd'hui, 28 % de ces espèces sont menacées d'extinction. Les populations s'effondrent, les habitats naturels disparaissent, les pesticides empoisonnent l'environnement. L'équilibre est perturbé, et sa capacité d'adaptation est de plus en plus compromise. Il est possible d'enrayer cette spirale ! Chacun peut agir, individuellement et collectivement. Mais avant de se lancer, il faut d'abord comprendre en profondeur ce qu'est la biodiversité, appréhender les interdépendances entre les espèces, puis décrypter les causes à l'origine de cet effondrement. Sans cette compréhension, les décisions prises peuvent aggraver le problème – alors que les vraies bonnes solutions sont à notre portée : sortir de l'agriculture intensive, lutter contre la destruction des milieux naturels, contribuer à des programmes de science participative...   Avec plus de 200 infographies synthétiques, claires et précises, La biodiversité en infographies permet de visualiser en un clin d'oeil les enjeux liés aux écosystèmes.
