He was a kid when she was old!
He was a kid when she was old!
Alma: the island isn't far. We could go tomorrow...?
Zee: you...wanna come with?
Alma: you got me intrigued, Cemetery Boy
And as they walk back through the dark, neither of them mentions that this is becoming a habit
Alma: well...we got some information. Let's go, this place is starting to creep me out.
Zee: I thought you didn't believe in ghosts?
Alma: I still don't. But I am also not found of creepy groundkeepers.
Zee: did she ever mention the younger siblings? the ones who died?
Silas: Not once. Some griefs are too heavy to name...
Alma: poor woman
Silas: if you wish to pay your respects, she is on the island in Whispering Glen. Picked it herself. Said the lake was the last place they were all together
Silas: there was a sadness in her eyes that never left. She and Deimos were Miss Alice's eldest, from a previous marriage. Everyone believed Lady Ann felt responsible for not being home that night
Alma: and Deimos?
Silas: went crazy. Spent his whole life trying to find out what really happened
Alma: so what are we actually looking for here?
Zee: I need to find out what happened to all of them...I think there' may be more to this storm than what the official records say
Silas: Lady Ann thought so too.
Alma: oh my watcher! who are you?
Silas: I'm the mysterious groundkeeper
Zee: that tracks
Alma: here...her statue
Zee: "Ann Basu. Beloved founder, educator, and philanthropist. In loving memory of her mother and siblings, lost to the lake. The one everyone agreed on." What does that mean?
Alma: that's what they say about her. That she was just good.
Zee: she built all of this...for them
Alma: so I went through the newspaper archives last night. Ann Basu, that's her full name. Founded the school four generations ago. She lost her mother in the storm along with two younger siblings. Her mother's name was...
Zee: Alice
Alma: someone's done his homework
Zee: a little
๐๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ค๐. ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฆ.
Alma: finally...you finish work at TEN?
Zee: yeah, aren't I lucky? Boss let me sneak out early
Alma: ...early?
Zee: I was super efficient with the LEFs...I mean the paperwork
Alma: I knew cops had weird hours but this...
Zee: shall we?
Cause of death: Cowplant. Again.
Zee reaps the souls, files the LEFs, and is out the door before Bone can say a word. He has somewhere to be tonight.
Today's mission sends Zee to Oasis Springs. For some reason, even though the mission itself stated this was about a cowplant and there's a very suspicious cowplant next to the bodies, he still needs to determine the case of death.
Zee: let's do this
Later that night, Zee couldn't sleep.
And somewhere across the veil....neither could Alma.
Medusa: *gulps* done. Delicious. Are you happy now?
Zee: I thought we could...catch up
Medusa: catch up? what's gotten into you lately?
Zee: I don't know. I went to the mortal realm today and I...
Medusa: are we gonna woohoo or what?
Zee: ...yeah okay
Later that night at the Vale
Zee: thanks for coming
Medusa: don't get used to it, I had nothing better to do
Zee: come on in...
Medusa: Thirteen, what's this?
Zee: oh...I thought we could have dinner
Medusa: demons don't dine
Zee: I know...I mean...I bottled some emotion? I thought it could be nice
As Zee heads back, he feels something cold land on his hand. Colder than his hand, actually.
Zee: what's this...?
Since he's already here, Zee decides to walk around Ravenwood for a bit. He's been close to humans before, in Spooky Day, and in official business. But this is different.
Nobody is performing. Nobody is dying. They're just...living?
Itโs disgusting ๐คฎ honestly
given EAโs CEO salary keeps on increasing and increasing to RIDICULOUS levels (over 30 million a year) while they do is - this hurts even more. all this extra profit margin is just being pocketed by greedy people. Itโs capitalism at its worst
Plus itโs also shit from the employment perspective in an industry already hit hard by AI: it exploits contractors who just get a minimal share of the benefits, and removes all need to pay wages, and provide work benefits to actual employees. its exploitative at all levels.
He really is hahaha in so glad the recap served its purpose!!! Yay!
Zee: do you know anything else?
Alma: not off the top of my head. I have to go now, but let me dig around a bit. We can meet tomorrow at the school?
Zee: ...yeah. Tomorrow.
Alma: that's settled. Don't forget your magnifying glass, Cemetery boy.
Alma: it's a boarding school here. I've been researching it for my story. It was founded by a woman to honor the family she lost in the lake. Storm, I think. Tragic
Zee: a storm...she lost her whole family?
Alma: two of the children survived apparently. The woman who built the school was one of them
Alma: what's all that about Alice?
Zee: it's...well, I'm sort of...investigating a case.
Alma: oh, are you a cop?
Zee: something like that. It's about a woman who drowned here. A long time ago. She had four children.
Alma: wait...don't tell me you're investigating "Our Lady of the Lake"?
Zee: what?
Alma: ...you really have no idea how to talk to people, do you?
Zee: oh. Alma. it's you.
Alma: it's me. Sit down before you get yourself arrested?
Zee: hi...sorry to bother, I was wondering if you could help me...
Man: I don't have cash on me, go away beggar
Zee: I...what? No I just...
Mila: isn't this the weirdo who's been trying to recruit people for his cult all morning?
Alma: wait...that voice?
So far he's not had the best of luck.
Zee: have you heard about Alice?
Mailman: ugh not another cult...I'd rather sell my children on the EA Marketplace
[...]
Zee: ...so I think she must have drowned? Long time ago?
Rando: lol, why does this town attract all the nutjobs and conspiracy theorists?
Zee: oh...a mortal. Nice. Hey, lady, have you heard about Alice?
Tziporah: what? Don't you see this is a cemetery?
Zee: I just need to know about a....
Tziporah: go away, weirdo!
Looks like the secret passageway in Alice's Tree leads to Ravenwood's cemetery. Zee puts on his human disguise and gets ready to investigate.
