"Isnβt it true that our selves β ships of Theseus, constant and constantly changing as they traverse the seas of time β die similarly by degrees, moulting as they forge onward?"

I finally have my recap post about our first Psych Ambient Daydream festival up on the site, featuring many incredible shots taken by @cbruno.bsky.social. Check it out! recordcratesunited.com/2026/01/12/p...
In lieu of resolutions, I am instead making a Substack. It's little more than the weekly photo diary I post on IG (@fadedincandescent) but it affords me room to ruminate and expand beyond the parameters of that platform should I so desire. Perhaps you'll subscribe?

One week from today, I'll be at Prototype 237 in Paterson for Psych Ambient Daydream, a full day of music lovingly curated by @recordcratesunited.bsky.social & @seawindofbattery.bsky.social featuring The Royal Arctic Institute, Garcia Peoples, Emergency Group, and others. See you there?
New Jeff Tweedy album & new Paul Thomas Anderson film out today.
Plus Stardust Memories released on this date in 1980; Abbey Road released & The Brady Bunch premiered in 1969; first US performance by Pink Floyd in 1967; & the birthdays of George Gershwin and Martin Heidegger.
Very Bruno-coded day.
Rewatched this myself this morning. Great indictment of American exceptionalism. Michael Ritchie is definitely one of the great under-heralded voices of New Hollywood.
School is here, autumn is near.
I find myself forever firmly in service and debt to the poetry and magic hiding plainly among the quotidian moments of a given day.
Allow yourself the time and permission to discover as much unheralded beauty as you can.
Buy the magazine; buy the album.

Garbage country, but here are some photographs I've made of fireworks anyway.
I think the planter was bugged...

Another impeccable @recordcratesunited.bsky.social Garden Party is in the books, this time featuring the lilting folk reveries of Ornamental and the literate jangle boogie of Heat Manager. (I, very lamentably, had to leave before the @seawindofbattery.bsky.social / Royal Arctic Institute crossover.)
Worth your time, attention, and money.
Happy Pops' Day to all the fellow dads out there trying to cultivate a few more kind, compassionate souls. Here are a couple good ones, Mike and Jarrod of @seawindofbattery.bsky.social, shot on 4x5 Ektachrome at last year's Deep in the Valley festival with a passel of children (none of them theirs).
Simple squares from my walk around town last week. @ilfordphoto.com SFX 200, Hasselblad 500cm.
I was among those who bought On The Shore purely on the strength of its cover; it immediately became one of my favorite albums and was, in my twenties, my true gateway into late 60s/early 70s folk rock (Fairport had failed to grab me as a teen, the lysergic heft of Trees was more to taste).
Me at the function.
Every time I develop and scan Tri-X shot on my Hasselblad, I think the same thing: I need to shoot more Tri-X on my Hasselblad.
Backyard daisies, yesterday afternoon.
Great record. I wish I could have made it out for the NY gig.
Jennifer Coolidge saying, "I think he's Swedish," got me.
This afternoon in Piscataway, the Hands Off protest organized by @50501movement.bsky.social and @pwaydems.bsky.social.
It's pretty apparent they're not giving PTA as free a hand as he's had in years past.
Psychedelic Sanghaβs ChΓΆd: Sonic Sadhana event at Judson Church with Garcia Peoples, Isaiah Mitchell, Kendraplex, Chris Dingman, etc. was a voyage for the mind, soul and third ear. Check out my first hand account, with stellar photographs by @cbruno.bsky.social recordcratesunited.com/2025/04/14/c...
Probably been a quarter century since I last saw it, but I loved that film in high school. Still one of the first ones I think of when Kilmer's name comes up.
I don't want to sound cynical, and I certainly will take any Trump resistance I can get, but this is first and foremost Booker starting his 2028 campaign.
Not that tour, but caught both films at IFC in 2013. We spoke afterwards about Stanley Kubrick, Andre Breton, Charles Manson, Tom Phillips, and, if memory serves, Neil Postman. Wild films; erudite man.
