Very attractive postdoc opportunity at the University of Padua. While the position is advertised as Econ, the group has strong interests in political economy and would consider seriously quant polisci students.

So six academics decided to read the same book together and did not realize how long the book was. Middlemarch took us almost a year and to discuss it we used slides.
Anyway, my one sentence summary of the discussion is that it's a book about self-deception.
I wanted dinner recommendations so I scraped 13,000+ London restaurants and accidentally discovered Google Maps is running a shadow economy. Anyway here's a dashboard and a political economy thesis: open.substack.com/pub/laurenle...

EG: I mobilize to keep factory open, but globalization increases the cost of govt takeover and thus the level of mobilization above which govt intervenes. Anticipating this, I believe others will not show up and so I am less likely to show up myself. People here are strategic in the sense of Andy
I agree with Andy that the distinction between naive and strategic is a useful way to get at this. The starting point is a theory of political participation (with expressive and instrumental motivations) and a stance on what globalization does. 1/2

April 25, 1945 marks the end of the Nazi occupation of Italy. We honor those who chose to resist and those who died fighting.
The Benedicta massacre occurred between April 6 and 11, 1944, a few miles from my hometown. Itβs the largest mass killing of the Italian Resistance, taking over 150 lives.
As a group, Iβd say we did pretty well
