Sports gambling should be legal but you should have to go to an actual building to do it and it should be so off-putting and sad youโll never want to do it again

This T20WC had a lot going against it that had nothing to do with the cricket. The IND/PAK/BAN saga soured a lot of people.
But as someone living in an Associate country where the game is growing as a participation and spectator sport, there is 0 question which one is more important here. It's T20.
Cricket is my joy. It's also vulnerable to co-opting by nationalists in South Asia, and boards are slow to shrug off old systems and views. They want to convince the public that it's their way or the highway, and all of this is inevitable. Joy disrupts that framing and erodes their power.
Inspired in part by @rodger.bsky.social:
Cricket's halls of power full of awful people and systems that want to convince us that they are the only way forward, eager to shape the game for their own wealth/status/ideology. But they only win if we let them make us miserable.
One Big Beautiful War
Tara Norris got paid, we love to see it
I think people get it wrong when they talk about MLB and the WBC, in the same way they get it wrong with the NHL and the Olympics. It's mostly mythical that these events create new fans of the sports. But we should encourage their participation anyway because WE are fans and WE like watching it
And he does it with the same joy as a golden retriever chasing a frisbee, truly the most immaculate vibes in international cricket.
This almost isn't worth watching #T20WorldCup
A silver Asus Chromebook with a number of stickers on it, notably including Valtteri Bottas' victory message from his Australian Grand Prix win which reads as follows: "To Whom It May Concern, Fuck You"
I bought the sticker
Finally we have a Rube Goldberg machine that emphasizes the "Rube" instead of the "machine"

Cool moment after ETSU beat The Citadel in their SoCon quarterfinal today: the entire team piled in behind forward Blake Barkley (24pts, 6reb) in his post-game interview with TV. Underscores how connected this group has been all year.
A scene from the Japanese TV show Takeshi's Castle featuring about two dozen people in various forms of feudal Japanese formal and theatrical dress sitting and chanting. Superimposed text reads "Don't! Get! Eliminated!" in reference to the American show Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, which used the same footage.
ETSU's run in the SoCon men's basketball tournament starts today at noon. And as always...
Galaxy Quest is so damn good
The team that won the NIT last year was the first team eliminated from its conference tournament this year. #CBB
What if we simply make selling data illegal
A basketball team in their white warm-up jerseys gets ready for a basketball game inside a large arena. The arena is about one-third full, with a group of school children sitting in the corner of the arena high above the floor.
Doing my day job today. SoCon tournament in Asheville where 2 seed ETSU playe 7 seed UNCG at 1:15 ET. www.640wxsm.com/player/?play...
I am Daniel Boone's 8th grand-nephew
He was so nice! Which I anticipated, but I appreciate someone who grew up with the game creating a welcoming space for someone who didn't but loves it just as much. It's a microcosm of my general experience with watching and writing about cricket.
I had an awesome conversation this morning with @aditrs.bsky.social for his podcast that will drop in a few weeks. Honored to be a Cricket Sicko. I feel like he had about twice as many questions as he got to ask because I went full solo talk radio mode on him a couple of times ๐คฃ
The Pilot G2 glides through a 6-4-3 double play in my baseball scorebook. As my students say, it's GOATed.
I love South Africa because they are always the best team in a tournament and then hit a wall like Wile E. Coyote

Physically, Finn Allen is in Kolkata playing for New Zealand. Mentally, he is still in Oakland hitting 19 sixes for the San Francisco Unicorns
*path forward for American cricket. Now accepting definitions for "filorwars"
Now that USA Cricket's infighting has been brushed off the path filorwars for American cricket, ACE now has the power and responsibility to move the game forward - starting with managing a domestic player pool that's beginning to strain at the limitations placed on it.
Pretty much rules the entire Afghanistan contingent out of MLC. Noor Ahmad was the league's third-leading wicket taker last season.
Feels like it's only a matter of time before South Africa announces a June/July tour that leaves MLC with slim import pickings...
If I were a Pakistani player and they did this to me I would never play for them again.
Now more than ever, you don't have to be cutting and pasting batshit posts that you have seen over on That Other Site and also, for fuck's sake, get off That Other Site, again, now more than ever
Windies were toothless with the ball early, and then the dew did its thing. Disappointing to let the bats down like that.
I am already mentally preparing for another IND/SA final
