Wow….i used to make competent cells for the my PhD lab. Talk about a thankless job and everyone blames you when your transformation doesn’t work or you run out when someone uses that last 40 vials but doesn’t tell anybody ☹️

Enough fluorescein is visible to the naked eye no lamps needed….thats what the use to turn river green on St Pat’s day Lol 😂

lol 😂 My boss in a lab where I took a gap year before grad school regaled me about all the P32 she mouth pipetted and having to make her own EcoRI to do restriction digests in her grad school days….different times 😇

That brings back memories: on my Grad School visit to Stony Brook I stayed in the basement apt of one of students for a night (sooo Long Island) and had a hotel room for the second night (fancy). I still randomly remember watching NYC news about unsanitary conditions in some Manhattan restaurants 🤭

There’s a lot of work that show leaning and mastery are non-linear in many situations. “Range” by Epstein and “Art of the impossible” are good books to read on the topic. But the 10000 hours idea really only applies to repetitive tasks….exactly the types of things I’d hope science isn’t lol

Hah….agreed but I still like to keep some active. Gives me the perspective of what’s possible so I don’t ask people the equivalent of the “beautiful” experiment my PhD advisor would always ask first year grad students and break them because “beautiful” does not equal “possible” lol
