If one were to be cynical, and God forbid anything like this could ever happen, one might begin to wonder if the long term plan (after the post by-election rhetoric) is to move onto denying voting rights for those whose settled status you have retrospectively removed. But that would be ridiculous.

James Stanley, Earl of Derby, was the leading Royalist in the northwest when civil war broke out in 1642. His family seat was Lathom House in Lancashire but the King ordered him to fortify the Isle of Man against a possible Scottish invasion in 1643.
