Gee I wonder who could be behind this

does the province have the authority to unilaterally cut the city out of the tripartite agreement governing Billy Bishop?

Don't build stupid artificial islands that nobody wants or needs, don't propose insane tunnel highways nobody think are feasible, do fund education adequately.

Governing ON is hard, but not that hard.

This *is* insane. His ignorance knows no bounds, nor does his contempt for the city. The sooner we're rid of him and back to saner governance, the better.

For avoiding this, I find Scholar Inbox is an essential tool.
Are there other strategies you'll share w your lab that you can also share more broadly?

β€œRough Men Stand Ready”: Neither Churchill nor Orwell The famous quotation about Rough Men defending civilization, misattributed to Churchill, has a distant relation to something by Kipling.

Goes without saying that Orwell did not say the thing she attributed to him.

A new preprint with Matthew Schmitt, @kiseokmicro.bsky.social and Vincenzo Vitelli makes a huge step forward in learning functional groups of components in complex biological systems. It's dimension reduction that speaks to biological function. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

I certainly hope so!

Another thought that rankles all to hell: you point out a good comparable in Petr Musa.

Maybe Jason Hernandez tried, but would it not have been less money for the same likely outcome to just try and throw $15m at FCD to buy Petr Musa? Or Dejan Jovelic from SKC for ~10m? What's the arg for $argent?

*You* have mixed feelings about Josh Sargent on TFC? Imagine how fans feel when MLSE brass talk him up as the second coming, post-Italians.

I get they want him to feel welcome. But he hasn't played in weeks, the team aren't creating many chances for a quality 9 to convert, so it's alarming yah.

05.03.2026 17:35 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

That quote is certainly a faceplant. He hasn't even played a minute yet, we don't even know if this team can get him the ball enough to score, can we temper expectations? Why would you go and say something so outlandish in the recent history of Insigne & Bernardeschi?

MLSE, get it together.

I don't want to seem down on COT civil servants; they make the city what it is, I enjoy the output of their labour every day. But where it's clear the city should be better, the mayor has to work, push, cajole (and now on some issues just dictate?) for that change.

04.03.2026 17:13 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, but there are some clear directions for improvement where there's a broad public consensus (e. g more public restrooms, denser development) yet inertial resistance to be overcome (e.g Councillor Holyday, rigid civil service mgmt). The leadership's job is clear: make a consensus & get it done.

04.03.2026 17:11 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

πŸ’― agree. Toronto civil service is a slow moving ship & needs someone with both popular support and political capital to invest to effect change.

That Tory instead chose to keep a status quo & slowly strangle the city, despite it being plain that it wasn't working, tells me he's a poor leader.

SJ was the big loss. His xGoals saved was basically top of the league. Rosted & Long were good (not great) at recoveries, tackles, interceptions, xG against, but the keeper is the largest change

I hope an upgrade at CB, plus their young CB prospects actually being healthy enough to play will help
