Though Lady sadly isn’t with us to watch the episode premiere, rewatching it reminded me of how big of an impact that she had on my life and how she inspired me to help other dogs out there in need of a better life. Because they’re worth it!
I insisted that we end the episode with an adoption fair to give Gothamites a chance to adopt the stray pups to introduce kids to a new way they can be heroes too - by giving rescue dogs in need a safe home full of love and kisses.
Dogs are a lot of work and a lot of responsibility! But the unconditional love and loyalty that you get in return for all the hard work is one of the best feelings in the world - and I couldn’t help but pump those real emotions in this story!
Just like Buff’s arc, welcoming a dog into our home and (for me) learning how to handle things on the fly was often chaotic and sometimes overwhelming. But it was all worth it when you finally see them snoozing peacefully in a safe home for the first time.
Out of all my Batwheels episodes, “Ace in the Hole” is closest to my heart. Just before I got the privilege of introducing Ace the Bat-Dog into our world, we adopted my first dog - Lady, the sweetest super-senior with a heart of gold. This episode is my love letter to her.
Huge props to our Co-EP Michael Stern & our songwriter/producer Andy Sturmer for converting my script to lyrics, our vocal producer Angela Parrish for coaching the Batwheels to sing their wheels off, and our composer Alex Geringas for tying the songs together in perfect harmony!
I always wanted the core of this episode to center on feeling frustrated when things don’t go your way and falling back on bad habits when caught in unexpected situations. But taking a moment to calmly step back and think things through always helps you get through it!
