I’ve spent much of my life hanging out with ppl who need a community of support. Programs like these are essential for them & their families. If the #NovaScotia gov’t is in such fiscal trouble that they must do this, they should step aside for a party with better fiscal skills & solutions. #cdnpoli

I agree with you. Your response points to the problem with historical analogy. Your note below gets at my anxiety. The PM’s words in Davos aligned with my experience of business pragmatism, which tends to bypass rules (“red tape”) in favour of expediency, often causing unnecessary damage. #cdnpoli

'It's not easy, let's be clear': Carney speaks frankly about dealing with Trump at an event in Australia | CBC News Prime Minister Mark Carney pulled back the curtain on his relationship with his American counterpart Wednesday evening in Australia saying it's not easy dealing with U.S. President Donald Trump and he...

Wow. I had some time to explore this exhibition after an event tonight. Dara Vandor has put together a really thought provoking art installation @westernulibs.bsky.social with a lot of #cancon #cdnhist references. It is worth checking out if you are in #ldnont. www.daravandor.com/pax-american...

It is a dark world you are depicting. We also have to remember that Carney did not need to give any comments. Canada’s strongest moments have been when we articulated the importance of the rules based order. This is a very slippery slope.

01.03.2026 19:00 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I don’t see it that way, especially after recent statements. It also doesn’t align with several pivotal moments where Canada has made a clear decision to stand up for the international rules-based order. I agree that the pragmatics create contradiction, but a middle path involves consistency

01.03.2026 16:26 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

But by that token, nothing needed to be said at all. If a rules based international order is important, we need leaders to stand up for it. Most aren’t & it enables this type of behaviour.

Agreed. I will admit that I think smaller campuses, especially affiliated universities, have more at risk (but I work at one, so might feel that differently). The slightly more complicated argument with larger programs (not institutions) is the need for graduate students, which has also been gutted

Peace: Funding boost little solace for Ontario's small universities A recent funding announcement by the provincial government won't change the trajectoy of small universities, a local academic says

Small #universities matter now more than ever. They provide a model for teaching & learning that resists the convenience of #AI & they are also cost effective. In #Ontario, however, systematic underfunding puts these universities at risk. lfpress.com/opinion/colu... #onpoli #cdnpoli #cdnpse

I don’t disagree with what you have written after the first sentence, but I also don’t see how that makes the op-ed a false equivalency or hypocritical (though, again, I can see where Liberal policies in the 1990s fit the latter definition).

Just finished Part One of @robgmacfarlane.bsky.social “Is A River Alive?” & thinking of this week’s designation of #ldnont as Canada’s Forest Capital. The #DeshkanZiibi is such an intricate part of the #ForestCity. Macfarlane beautifully complicates the idea of giving nature the rights of personhood

This is something I didn’t know. Oral HRT/MHT has a higher risk of blood clots & strokes but government drug plans don’t cover patches or gels. In a special live audience (MIS)Treated, we talk about the multibillion market of menopause and how those going through it have trouble accessing care.

This is how #NormalPeople behave. The fact that it might seem unique demonstrates the rot that has so deeply tainted the corporate mindset.

100%. #ResearchEthics matter but a lot of the process, and often the feedback, is unnecessary, especially around oral history.

4/4 - One of the really interesting things about #FDMAS is that it appears evenly around world, though in a random way. For syndromes like this, #OpenBorders & #GlobalMobility matters, especially for researchers & patients. We need to build a global community that supports the free flow of knowledge

3/4 - Because #FDMAS is a #RareDisease, treatment is costly. We have had to fight for insurance to cover a drug that costs $20k/year; we were denied coverage for another drug that is about $200k/year. Ideal treatment is hindered by cost. No thank you for our insurance company, who makes life harder.

2/4 - First, we have a great medical team @lhsccanada.bsky.social & research team at the National Institutes of Health. As a mosaic disease, no two patients are alike, which can make treatment difficult. The level of care we receive is exceptional. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, & staff!

Do you know about #fibrousdysplasia or #McCuneAlbrightsyndrome? I didn’t until relatively recently. #FDMAS is a rare genetic syndrome. As a #RareDisease there are few good treatment options & they are very expensive. For #FDMASGlobalAwarenessWeek I want to share my family’s experience with it - 1/4

I completely agree. The language of austerity is also problematic. Imagine a world where we focused on excellence rather than saving a buck. It still means change might come, but the goal is something more meaningful than just “saving” money.
