Who decides the standard measures in your world? How do craftspeople and others know these standards?
Anyway, yes, the Mar. They are not particularly poetic, but do have a couple of ‘epics’ to tell. The one in question is about how the monstrosities of Undersea sank the Mar’s islands and the Mar were led to safety by the whales - the Great Ones.

Some Mar epic poetry.
Mar are semi-aquatic humanoids who live pretty much year-round on rafts on the deep seas.
I’ve come to realise that, for me, simple ‘roll to hit’ (be it static AC or THAC0) is not as satisfying as a contested roll. The BRP style (Pendragon, Call of Cthulhu) or defence/parry roll of Warhammer and Mythras is both more dramatic and a better simulation of individual combat.

Now on DTRPG. Again, it’s free, including two maps and an original monster, the Bound Knight, an undead created through vile rituals that trap a good soul in a decaying corpse, making them watch its fell deeds.
