A couple of years back I ran OSE for dad's side of my family one time, and my dad named his character "Boatnerd" and everyone laughed at him.
He said jokes on them, his character knew what hydrofoil was, and they didn't.
It didn't really come up ingame though.

I don't know, I'm mostly seeing people bitch about not having a game or sessions being cancelled.
I've seen a few people struggle because they're exhausted and still have the game later, but I take that more as complaining about the exhaustion.

I don't like their fandoms, but I think influencers themselves are a necessary evil if we want to bring lesser known games into the larger community.
Without certain reviewers or personalities, I would not have heard of or paid attention to some really good games.
Them leaving means less visibility.

Another "issue", which isn't really an issue, is that they are inherently extra work for the GM compared to an adventure that's designed for the system you're running, since you have to add all the mechanics yourself.

But you're running a system neutral module, you know what you're signing up for!

System neutral scenarios are totally fine, but I feel like half the time "system neutral" actually just means it's designed for either dnd 5e or OSR systems in intended mentality and playstyle, but has the mechanics filed off.

Which is fine, but they should be honest about it.

I've had to change a few details in Convergence to allow for an inexperienced group of players. Mostly conjuring up clues.
Overall a good learning experience.

No but you see, popular game reviewer said a thing. I've never even interacted with the game, never looked into the game outside his review or anything, but I will repeat his opinions as if they're based off of my own personal experiences playing it, because the review had funny skits in it.

Sometimes in stories and games, people do things that you personally wouldn't do in real life.

The appeal is that things are dangerous and you have to play carefully.
When you eventually get stronger and can play less carefully it feels like you've earned it, and you feel like your character is a badass.
