Are #HamOnt Councillors about to defund climate action?
Read on for more info - and be sure to follow @hamilton350org.bsky.social and @cyclehamilton.bsky.social if you are not already too!
It's the same way ever year, 2 delegation days, then the councillors debate the budget, the biggest difference the last couple of years is that the Mayor directs the staff on the budget.
No, the budget 2026 delegations, were in November and December, this will be a hailmary for council to safe money on the budget

2) Email the City Clerk to have your letter included for the February 6 meeting. Deadline is Wednesday at noon. Say it clearly, we need more bike lanes, more bike racks, and faster delivery. Not pauses.

Here is what you can do right now.
1. Email your councillor. Tell them safe cycling infrastructure matters to you. Protected bike lanes and bike parking are basic transportation, not extras.
/2
Pausing cycling infrastructure is not neutral. It means fewer protected bike lanes, fewer safe connections, and fewer bike racks. It means slower progress and more risk for people who bike, walk, or roll.
Delegation Days may be over for #HamOnt Budget 2026, but heads up. Anyone who watched the GIC meeting on January 29 heard it. There may be a motion coming to pause the accelerated Cycling Master Plan. Yes, pause. During a safety and climate crisis.
Stay tuned for more information on group rides coming your way soon! π

In light of recent events involving X\Twitter enabling non-consensual sexual deepfakes of women and children, our board decided last night it is time to leave. You can now follow us here and on instagram www.instagram.com/cyclehamilton/ We are here to build safer streets, not normalize harm.

Because what stays invisible never gets fixed.
This is our final post in the Vulnerable Road Users Collision Research project.
Every report is a receipt. Safer roads arenβt a vibe, theyβre a necessity.
Want to expose what official stats keep missing? Use BikeMaps.org.
Report:
β’ Cycling collisions
β’ Near misses
β’ Hazards
β’ Bike thefts
Every report is proof that safer roads are needed.
Because what stays invisible never becomes a priority.

Unreported collisions = invisible safety problems.
If it doesnβt get reported, it doesnβt get counted.
And if it doesnβt get counted, it doesnβt get fixed.
Collision data is what drives:
β’ Street redesign
β’ Bike lane improvements
β’ Resource allocation
β’ Accountability
