People should be able to trust their government to do what’s right — not depend on public outrage to force them to walk back their harmful decisions.
Caregivers are already fighting every day to protect the health and dignity of their loved ones. As Brittany says, Nova Scotians shouldn’t also have to fight just to get clear answers from when the programs they rely on are cut.
Brittany says it all.
At just 31, she's a full-time caregiver for her sister Katrina. When the Houston government cut disability supports, it caused weeks of stress and uncertainty.
It's not that complicated.
This government should be able to explain how they came up with the budget and why they made the cruel choices they did.
But they can't. Or they won't. Either option is a betrayal of the public's trust.
Nova Scotians have been hurt by this government.
Real people have lost their jobs and weeks of sleep because of these cruel cuts. Real people are having to bear the brunt of this government's financial mismanagement.
If this government were serious about helping Nova Scotian caregivers and reducing strain on our overburdened health care system, they would support the NDP’s proposal to double the benefit.

More than a thousand people, from disability advocates to artists to museum workers and more, came out to protest his cruel cuts.
The Houston government inherited a balanced budget and received unprecedented revenue over the last five years — more money to work with than any government in our province’s history. And the premier himself is a chartered accountant.
