Every now and again I just get briefly fascinated by the existence of Karnov. The world’s lamest mascot character with an inexplicable series of guest appearances, yet somehow kind of earnestly cool *because* he’s kind of lame. And by having a sick ass fighting game moveset. He’s like Bizarro Zubaz.

Reading through Discworld has been a healing experience for the soul. It’s so funny and accessible and every now and again will drop on you some poignant reflection on the human condition that sticks with you when you go to bed that night.

Now that I got to play it I’m surprised that Serious Sam Xbox never got an official port. The UI is super slick and the system changes (Captain Wayne style health and armor, revives, etc.) are actually transformative. Great way to experience the game (and shoutouts to the team that ported it to PC).

Appreciate the translation on the download page of the mod I was trying to install suggesting that the game does not have a cheat menu but that it does have a The Cheat menu.

There used to be(?) a TVTropes page linking to a couple of analyses of Metal Gear Solid 2 from around the time that game came out, and I think seeing people talk about that game in an academic context was probably formative for me. There’s so much you can learn by trying to *engage* with something.

For the longest time the only audiobook I owned was all of The Lord of the Rings. It was 60+ hours and listening to it on and off would get you through about a month’s worth of shifts. As a result I have developed a bottomless resentment for ents, elves and Tom Bombadil.

I think the older I’ve gotten the sharper my sense of “something fucked up the development of the game I am currently playing” has become. And I dunno if that’s a good thing or not.

So for the first time in a while today I decided to go for a clean shave, and discovered that I have the exact jawline required for a picture perfect Serious Sam cosplay, which I guess gives me ideas for the next convention I attend.

I was talking about this with a friend but we came to the conclusion that the niche in pop culture that used to be occupied by stuff like Conan the Barbarian has gradually been replaced by the Souls genre broadly, which is funny because there is a direct line of inspiration between those things.
