I remember all these pro-free-trade and greater integration articles back in the day that would say things like we all eat at McDonald's and KFC, or if you go to any strip-mal suburb, you can't tell whether you're in Canada or the US anyway. Maybe? From a car? Until you talk to someone?

When I read something like this, I imagine pitching it as a freelancer: "It's a commentary on John Tory. We are good friends, and I'm going to discuss his legacy and his thoughts, but I won't quote him at all. Two consecutive paragraphs will start with 'For me...'. Do I get the gig?"

Yeah, I think people misinterpret as individual payment to artists, which is a tiny part of it. Also, the Houston government increased funding to many of these groups two years ago, so they were, naturally, not expecting drastic cuts now.

I remember being a young 'un and feeling outraged when the Montreal cops would turn on their flashers for a few seconds as they drove through a red light, and then turn them off again. Did not have the experience to realize it was just a banal level of activity.
