Smoking seems ironically easier to quit than vaping too tbh
Rather randomly came across this request from Te Whatu Ora for quotes for nicotine vapes and pods - rather dodgy imo - www.gets.govt.nz/HEALTHNZ/Ext...
Two AI generated images - one meant to depict a gender diverse young person, the other meant to depict a 'culturally diverse' family
AI generated images of a cartoon woman with a low-cut v-neck shirt, in one image eyes slightly crossed.
I did an online update course through the Immunisation Advisory Committee last week, and honestly I can't stop thinking about how ridiculous and inappropriate these AI images were that they used - especially the two used in the 'cultural engagement' section which relied on AI generated stereotypes.
No one is denying that actively opposing an authoritarian force increases your risks of extrajudicial execution, it's just some people seem to be okay with extra judicial executions at the hands of authoritarian forces.
This government's effective cuts are causing our healthcare system to haemorrhage incredibly experienced clinicians and we're unlikely to ever see a true recovery from this.
I'm honestly so sick and heartbroken watching incredibly passionate, skilled, and qualified healthcare workers being so burnt by the funding cuts carried out by this government that they're leaving the healthcare system altogether. #nzpol
The lack of understanding of our primary health care system is a major problem, and it's a major political problem. It's especially a problem because opposition parties also appear to misunderstand how this system works, hence Labour's poorly thought out policy of four free "GP" appointments
I've seen people blame cuts to healthcare funding for this - but again MMH isn't funded by the government.
I've seen people confused why a third party IT system is providing NZ health care infrastructure - but MMH isn't government funded, not directly anyway, it's contracted by individual primary care clinics.
One of the big things of noticed in the responses to the Manage My Health data breach debacle is the fact so few people seem to understand that our Primary Health Care system is a privatized neoliberal system, hence why a for profit private entity operates the primary care patient portal that is MMH
In my family that's fine and normal.

My favourite part of intergenerational Xmas time is hearing how much my grandmother in law hated Paul Henry's attempt at the Chase.

Brian Tamaki's gang-like cult today disrupted a Sikh community event in Manurewa today - Destiny Church is the biggest threat in this country and we need to start actively confronting them.

This is bonkers, neoliberalism destroying our healthcare system on purpose.

And that's what makes their decision likely illegal - the medicines act doesn't allow medication to be banned on political whims, and for a good and obvious reason.
Honestly reading through the decision from the high court makes it even more glaringly obvious that cabinet made this transphobic decision solely on grounds of imported culture war and ignored all expert advice provided.
Solid news!
BREAKING: The High Court of New Zealand has granted PATHAβs application for interim relief, declaring that the Crown should not take any steps to enforce the incoming ban on new prescriptions of puberty blockers to transgender children and young people. More to come:

As we continue to normalise inadequate and frankly unacceptable policy across the board, it should be noted that those speaking up are experts, frontline staff, lived experience voices and the public.
Leaders are permitting this through silence and inaction - actively normalising bad governance.
Oh yeah I think the improved special authority process is helpful, and the changes will be even more helpful once someone has the diagnosis.
In the public system yeah this won't make a dent. But in the private sector there's still year long wait lists for private psychiatrists for adhd assessments for adults, so at least theoretically this will decrease the private for-profit waitlist, not much help for most folk who can't afford private
These new rules allowing GPs and NPs to diagnose ADHD only applies to over 18yos at the moment too so might not help much with younger folk unless it frees up more private psychiatrist times? Mental health service NPs will be able to diagnose kids though
I think the clinic owners probably don't really grasp the nurse practitioner work force but know we will technically be allowed to diagnose ADHD come Feb and want to cash in mostly
But most noticeably is that for a nurse practitioner the offered pay here for ADHD assessment and diagnosis is below the market rate for primary care nurse practitioners
I personally think this is hilarious but also predictable - with the government's decision to move ADHD assessment and diagnosis into primary care without consultation with or funding of the primary care system, for profit ADHD clinics are popping up

My phone fell out of my pocket on Karangahape Road and every nearby driver and pedestrian yelled out to me to let me know I'd dropped it. I love my neighbourhood.
