I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

The latter is going to result in struggling students (not necessarily with the work, just overall life load) making themselves small; communicating less, withdrawing engagement in the workβ¦.is often seen as confirmation of their fault or badness rather than consequence of leadership choices.

Thereβs always leakage. People do things for reasons that make sense to them. The drive will be there. & a prof teaching fear is a violation of stewardship. Theres an ethical difference between using shame to stop a peer from cutting a line & a teacher shaming a class for low homework turn-in.

My reading sums up that you can shame people *out* of some antisocial behaviors that arenβt compulsive, but you cannot shame anyone *in* to much at all. Learning/creativity require brain states that are not compatible with shame.

No, it would not be ruined. Excessive friction while wet might cause superficial felting on wool coating, but high heat is required to shrink it to the point of unwearability. If he hung it close to a fire or on a radiator itβs conceivable that could damage it.

This is your reminder that Hungarian-Jewish scientist George de Hevesy dissolved two Nobel Prizes in aqua regia to keep them out of the hands of the Nazis.
He then left the dissolved solution on his shelf and fled to Sweden.
(After the war he un-dissolved the gold and the prizes were re-cast.)

Trust in others and institutions predicts subjective well-being and vice versa. This makes me even more attuned to the costs of people and systems that undermine trust. The decay of trust as a public health issue. #PsychSciSky #AcademicSky #EduSky doi.org/10.1037/bul0...

At one point today, there were 283 Minnesota attorneys doing a training on how to file emergency habeas petitions to keep our neighbors from being shipped out of state and held indefinitely.
That would be the second largest law firm in the state. And that training was just put together this week.

Pritzker: The Insurrection Act is designed for circumstances where your rights canβt be protected by local authorities
This is exactly the opposite.
Your civil rights are being infringed upon by CBP and ICE, and then they want to call in troops claiming that theyβre protecting CBP and ICE.

We are hearing reports from renters about property managers & apartment building staff openly allowing ICE into residential buildings. This raises serious concerns about tenant safety, privacy, & rights. To better understand the scope of this issue, HOME Line wants to hear directly from renters.

You can do this right now:
Think of a person who wrote a paper you love, whose work influenced or helped you, or has made your professional life better.
Search up their email address. Shoot them a quick email of thanks. It means so, so much. This is a rough time of year, share some joy.
