PhD Project - Stopping GLI transcription factors in their tracks: identifying regulators of proteolysis as therapeutic targets. at University of Leeds, listed on FindAPhD.com
We have a fully funded studentship to start your PhD in October 2026! Work with me, Elton Zeqiraj and Joe Cockburn to find new ways to treat diseases with high levels of Hedgehog signalling. Fantastic training in cell and structural biology, genomic screening and biochemistry at the Uni of Leeds!

This one is a bit of a departure from the usual and definitely a work in progress!
We found that by using ab initio reconstruction at very high res, in very small steps, we could crack some small structures that had eluded us - e.g. 39kDa iPKAc (EMPIAR-10252), below.

This illustration shows the interface of the kinase NEK7 (light blue) and the E3 ubiquitin ligase substrate receptor cereblon (teal). The interaction is facilitated by the small molecule MRT-3486 (orange).
New research in Science greatly expands the potential target scope of molecular glues and should stimulate the development of new small molecules that can selectively target therapeutically relevant proteins for degradation.

BRAF oncogenic mutants evade autoinhibition through a common mechanism
Uncontrolled activation of the rat sarcoma (RAS)βextracellular signalβregulated kinase (ERK) pathway drives tumor growth, often because of oncogenic BRAF mutations. BRAF regulation, involving monomeri...
π New paper out in Science!
In collaboration with Marc Therrienβs lab, we show how oncogenic BRAF mutants adopt a pre-active conformation, escaping auto-inhibition and driving RASβERK pathway activation in cancer.
