Thank you so much! Loved seeing your face appear.

Mate, anxious academic is just how I usually dress. Except for the pointy jewellery.

London friends! I am giving a talk on medieval drama at the Senate House at 5 today (4th March).
If you have ever wondered about the state of table manners in the medieval Fall plays, this is your time to find out.

Resist at your peril.
I once heard of a student paper which ended with a drawing of a parachuting person and 'I'm just going to parachute out of this argument', and I don't think I'd have marked them down for this.
Mari Lwyd would definitely polish off all the cakes and ale from the tea break tables before the rest of you got a look in!
Well, this looks worryingly similar to what is happening here, too. At least 8 colleagues I know through gender and medieval studies research are having modules and courses cancelled and jobs threatened.

Yes! Of course he's a scummy landlord as well as everything else.
I've been unable to concentrate all afternoon. I tried my absolute best in this job and especially in my teaching and am now left feeling none of it will ever be good enough.
It feels like this is worth sharing again. Sir Ian McKellan giving The Strangers Case monologue from Sir Thomas Moore, attributed to William Shakespeare.

This weekend I'm reviving a former show: reworking it with all the new things I learnt through my last storytelling tour. Looking forward to performing 'Bayeux Tapestry: the Full Yarn' at Wolves LitFest in February! wolvesliteraturefestival.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/...
Very happy to have an article on storytelling with the brilliant @janebonsall.bsky.social in this publication! Very much recommend her as the nicest writing partner.

It's ok, the crimes have been reduced from murder to petty theft!

So fancy!
This is totally unacceptable.
'What are we looking for when we pick up a βreimagined classicβ or a βbold and subversive retellingβ of a centuries-old tale?'
Our latest Meet a Medievalist Maker post is by @sarafredman.bsky.social, author of 'Griselda is Dead, and Also Her Patience', a reimagining of Chaucerβs 'Clerk's Tale'π
Ugh.
Guiding friends are working on the best way to disrupt this right now. I hope they succeed. Hugs.
Oh, it has bounds. There is clear panic in the marketing of the HBO series. I believe it'll flop after series 1. Fantastic Beasts has died a death. Adult actors in the audio book condemned across the internet for their apathy. What's happening is horrific and reprehensible, but not without pushback.
Great culture can save lives. Literally.
Amazing letter in todayβs @thetimes.com about Tom Stoppard
Universities are in crisis, and I donβt think itβs helpful to phrase that as βexiting the marketβ. Theyβre not mid-range shoe shops, these are educational pillars in society
Excited to be telling this story in Emmeline Pankhurst's dining room in Manchester tomorrow.

Improved it for you.
Posted this last night. In case you missed it, Hope Projects does amazing work with people utterly abandoned by the state. Giving them some money will annoy Nigel Farage, Shabana Mahmood, Lee Anderson, Tommy Robinson and the Daily Mail.
I'm actually teaching this as part of my Queer Medieval module this semester! We have a week on queer creative medievalisms, a week before I run workshops helping them to develop their own creative response to the module's materials.
