My fav screen for the past 12 hours
Recently I had a spike of new players in #tinygenerals. They started games but often dropped on the first turn without any movement. I thought they didnโt like it or didnโt know what to do. Today I tried the game on my old phone with slow internet and discovered the loading progress bar is broken ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Early version, no graphics yet and I don't know if I will manage to polish it but I made a simplified spinoff on one of the upcoming features for #tinygenerals and my hope is to make a version for the #commodoreamiga #amiga classic and AmigaOS/MorphOS/AROS.

I was missing a manager/updater for #godot @godotengine.org so I created a new one (and I totally neglected that there's likely 666 of them already).
Should work across all platforms, has a TUI interface and #commodoreamiga related easter egg in settings.

I've been under the weather and progress on #tinygenerals and @postreads.co slowed down to a crawl. But new updates are coming for both. TG will get an update tonight/tomorrow, postreads "when it's ready". TG gets also an update of help portal with modding info.

My RTX4090 needs to be serviced so I decided to try out RTX5090. It showed me two things: my CPU (13700) is a bottleneck yet i get 300+ fps in 5k in Cyberpunk with RTX Overdrive but overall the increase is not "wow" enough to justify the price. Two: I don't need that power to run even local LLM/AI.
When Grammarly identifies text which might have been written with AI it proposes to rewrite it with... AI.

Not yet auto-tiling and no proper graphics, but finally worked on the new roads implementation. Previously roads were tiles like forest point. Now road is an overlay/modifier - it modifies the terrain values. Railroads and rivers likely coming soon

Yes, I gave AI the chance to exploit my position - didn't push early for resources, allowed it to gain economical upper hand and... it used it. Recently I spent time on #ai in the game. it's far from perfect but can be a challenge.

Love it. Much better than holding 666 items in magical pockets. But if we were picky - in reality player would not be able to take the guns from his back :)
Trying to be serious to write a better AI for the game. Wrote myself a debug overlay which shows the influence map and decisions by AI - transitioning to behavior tree for easier debugging and maintenance. (e.g. current AI is too passive - heals too often)

And now when I'm on the other side - trying to make games - I just figured that I was living under the rock. I did not get the memo that without onboarding, given our current attention span - unless your game is the next Minecraft, without onboarding, tutorials and help system - you will likely fail
I never read instructions, I never touch tutorials. From my pov games stopped adding uniquely new mechanics around 2013. Since then they are same old, same old. Only graphics differ. But not always for the better. In fact I love this video:

There was no support, no Internet and likely I was the only guy playing this game among my friends. Who had computers - not many of us had. Years later I remember coming back to my fav The Settlers, at the time 3 or 4 - I was shocked that the game was handholding you through EVERYTHING.
Do you remember onboarding in Panzer General? In Civilization 1? I grew up in the 80s, my first games were pirated copies - no instructions, usually in a language I was not good with (English). If I were unlucky, I could get a game in German or French (hello Transarctica) #imold #gamer
