it is clear that the Cabinet Office does not have a grip on what government spends on consultants'. Overspend on consultants could be recouped by further staff cuts which would be ridiculous. Instead of cuts, the UK civil service should be training people so that we don't need consultants.

I support the RMT and the proposed action. A 4-day week should only be introduced with the agreement of all unions and workers, not imposed upon them as a way of increasing work intensity.

The seminar was good, another step on the road to safer workplaces, safer work systems and really tackling the causes of ill health and sickness.

Andrea Egan: β€œUnder my leadership UNISON’s solidarity with Ukrainian unions and workers will continue andΒ grow” We were very pleased that the speakers at the 4 March Ukraine Solidarity Campaign rally at the UK Parliament for the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion included Andrea Egan, new General Secretary of public-service union UNISON. The UK's largest trade union, with around 1.3 million members, UNISON affiliated to USC in 2024. It was great to have its new leader, already such a powerful presence in the labour movement, speaking vocally in solidarity with Ukraine.

Rights around collective bargaining are too weak in the UK. We need to campaign to strengthen them. This is a vital task for the union movement - and it should be for the Labour government.

The NAO say that HMRC collected an extra Β£16bn from big businesses last year as it took a more hands-on approach, using dedicated officials to chase unpaid tax. This shows that if you fund the HMRC, that is if you support PCS members in the HMRC, then you get that investment back manifold.

DWP Ballot Result – threshold not met PCS members in DWP have undertaken a five-week ballot on pay which closed at noon on 23 February.

Disappointingly the union did not get over the 50% threshold in the DWP ballot. You can read more here: www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/...

The DWP strike ballot ends on Monday, 23 Feb. It is vitally important we get a YES vote but of course the anti-trade Union laws mean we have to get a 50% plus turnout as well. Every vote, your vote, therefore counts. So vote, and vote YES.

Taylor Rehmet Shows Working-Class Politics Can Win Everywhere A union machinist just won a Texas State Senate seat Trump carried by 17 points. He was outspent four to one. How did he do it? By tossing out the Democrats’ playbook and running a grassroots economic populist campaign with a strong pro-labor message.

Please listen to the podcast if you can. We can learn lessons from the labor movement in Minnesota. In fact faced with a Reform government in the UK we have to learn those lessons!

From the book 'The Good Society'; of all the 40 countries in the OECD and the EU, Britain had the greatest rise in child poverty in the decade before 2023, at 20%; close to a third of British children now live in poverty.
