All I can think about is Jeff Bezos saying that he slashed jobs at the Washington Post — including those of foreign correspondents in the Middle East — based on "the data," and a few weeks later a whole war breaks out in the Middle East that these laid off folks would have covered as true experts.

This amendment will deliver justice for survivors. We want to thank the survivors who bravely shared their experiences with Parliament and called for this change.

Government must now ensure the amendment is strongly enforced without delay.

🙌 Safeguards secured!

The House of Lords has voted to adopt critical safeguards on p*rnography websites: age & permission verification and the right to withdraw consent

The APPG has long called for this change to combat abuse and exploitation rampant on these sites 🧵

Gas prices jumped again this morning and are on track to double - a stark reminder of our exposure to fossil fuel volatility.

The real solution isn’t more drilling, but moving away from combustion: electrify, use renewable power, and boost energy efficiency.

3/3 That’s why net zero isn’t just environmental policy — it’s economic and national security policy. It cuts bills and removes risk, putting Britain in control of homegrown energy. In a more unstable world, it’s a no-brainer.

2/3 We’ve seen this before with Ukraine. When oil prices jump, inflation follows — and households are thrown back onto the energy bills rollercoaster. That’s life in a volatile global market shaped by geopolitical shocks.

Will petrol and diesel prices go up because of the Iran war? If oil prices remain high for some time, the knock-on effects could affect the costs of fuel and food

For months, critics of net zero said falling oil prices proved fossil fuels were now “cheaper.” Now Middle East instability is threatening another oil price spike — and higher energy bills for Britain. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20zgjzz0e4o

The white paper will also outline plans for two new programmes - Mission North East and Mission Coastal - to tackle the performances of deprived pupils in certain parts of the country. The Guardian understands the precise locations for these initiatives have yet to be decided.

Delighted to see that the government is adopting my proposal of a “Mission Coastal” to tackle the massive underachievement of young people growing up in our seaside towns. Based on New Labour’s “London Challenge” the plan should give more hope and growth to our coastal communities.

East Kent (and rural/coastal places) are very different from big conurbations like GM. Need a different approach.

Yes let’s. Areas that reply on a tourist economy in particular can benefit but it also helps people just to get to work school hospital appointments etc. it’s so dumb that “competition” trumps *actually making it work*

I will campaign for it as part of LGR (we are likely to have a unite at covering east Kent but transport will be a strategic responsibility higher up I suspect). One of the outcomes we are hoping for our city of culture bid is better (including more integrated) public transport across the isle.

Funny and stupid are polite epithets for this criminally ideologically driven numbskullery. I have lost count of the number of conversations with local leaders who say they can’t make investment in buses stack up. Just. Schedule. Them. To. Link. With. Other. Transport. Options. 🙄

Having actual veterans of Afghanistan like @louisesandherjones.bsky.social and @alcarns.bsky.social as ministers in our British government, telling it like it is, will hopefully remind our allies exactly how much NATO countries have need to have each others’ backs, in the past and the future

NATO Article V has been triggered only once: by the US after 9/11.

When our ally called, we in the UK didn't hesitate to stand with them.

636 British men & women paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan, with many more living with their injuries today.

We’ve just secured the largest amount of offshore wind in any auction ever in Britain - enough to power the equivalent of 12 million homes.

In Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 the first offshore wind project in three years has been successful - a landmark moment demonstrating our commitment to the whole of the UK.

Desperate to paint scrutiny and heartfelt concern as procedural shenanigans

Is it so hard to believe that many of us MPs and peers are hugely worried by this inadequate poorly-drafted mess of a bill, and take seriously our responsibility as lawmakers?!

'Tory Frontbencher Representing Roman Abramovich Must Drop Russian Oligarch – Or Resign' Writing for HuffPost UK, ministers warn the Shadow Attorney General that his new case is a conflict of interests.

A question the Tories are avoiding:

Should Abramovich’s money from the Chelsea sale go to Ukraine?

Their silence would be shocking, if you didn’t know their Shadow Attorney General was also Roman Abramovich’s lawyer!
