New linguistic data reveals a complex reality for Aranese:
the language is holding steady in number of speakers, yet losing ground in everyday use.
📉 Only 16.8% use Aranese daily
👥 ~2,200 speakers
🧠 Over 50% can speak it — but don’t use it regularly
The challenge isn’t survival.
It’s social use.

The UK Government recommended the Cornish language for Part III status under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. This places Cornish on a par with Welsh, Irish & Scottish Gaelic.

With Christmas coming, it’s the right time to talk about Nadau - “Christmas” in Occitan, and one of the most iconic bands of Occitània. 🎄
