Also, it’s true that public health people have to treat them with compassion and offer the benefit of the doubt, but regular people don’t have to do the same in their personal lives. Social stigma is a free tool for anyone!

Yes, many are ignorant and misinformed. But a lot also see their children as extensions of themselves and their lifestyle vision. Or are too arrogant to recognize when they don’t understand something. Or are invested in not following mainstream wisdom because it makes them feel special and smart.

I understand why public health people tend to treat anti-vaxxers as people with good intentions who are victims of misinformation.

But there’s also narcissism and arrogance at play with many anti-vaxxers, and it can get frustrating to be told to treat them with endless compassion and patience.

New sentence I have just spoken aloud to a cat: "Act like you've been here before."

Like, maybe compassion and patience and talking about anti-vaxxers as well-meaning people makes them slightly more likely to come around. But what if that approach makes people on the fence MORE likely to consider anti-vax nonsense? What do we do then?

Maybe there’s also an issue here where what works best for de-radicalizing people who are already anti-vax ISN’T what’s best for preventing more people from getting radicalized?
