The 2pm ET public update advisory for Hurricane Melissa has the central pressure down to 906 mb with peak winds of 175 mph. This makes Melissa the 10th strongest hurricane in record in the Atlantic Basin.

A friend of mine in Chicago just shared a video on IG of an ICE operation near her house. The operation happened just minutes before the neighborhood Halloween parade. ICE used tear gas and multiple parents had to wash their kids' (including toddlers) eyes out.

I’ve been listening to a lot of 80s Synth-Pop/New Wave as of lately. “Cars” by Gary Numan just popped in my head! 🤣

It has dropped 20 degrees (84° ➡️ 63°) since around 4 this afternoon. I noticed the big change around 6:30 when the wind changed from south to north. Can’t wait to open windows once I get home. 😴😌

Just a reminder that NWS is considered essential during a government shutdown. Meteorologists will still go to work, forecasts will still be made, watches and warnings will be issued, data will flow. We won’t be paid until the shutdown ends, but we’ll still protect life and property as always.

Special election will fill Hortman seat but candidates agree they can't fill her void Voters are choosing between Democrat XP Lee and Republican Ruth Bittner to fill House District seat 34B, which was previously held by slain former Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman.

The race will determine party control of the chamber, and comes as many are still healing emotionally from the recent acts of violence.
