Ah I've worked with Lucy in the past! Yes I'd definitely be keen to hear this. What's best, shall I DM you with my email? Thanks so much Kate.

BBC Radio 4 - Thinking Allowed, Prison violence, sound and survival A prize-winning study of the sounds of prison life, and an exploration of victimisation.

Kate Gooch and I discussed our work on #prisons, #sound and #violence with Laurie Taylor for "Thinking allowed" - aired tomorrow: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...
The wonderful @brisunipress.bsky.social very kindly made a 50% off code (HRR50) to mark it: bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/sound-order-...

Definitely. For a research project I visited some Norwegian prisons several years ago, which have carpets, soft furnishings etc - what a difference it makes.

Woke up early, switched on the radio, heard your excellent interview, found this post with the @brisunipress.bsky.social discount code, bought your book, really looking forward to reading it. Thank you Kate!

Radiophrenia is BACK, and sounding glorious. A refreshing antidote to All The Other Radio. πŸ“»

If you like your radio on the actual radio πŸ“» but you're not in Glasgow, it's also being relayed on 104.4FM across London via @resonancefm.bsky.social, and on DAB+ in several UK cities via Resonance Extra. πŸ“»

Roy Ayers was an incredible musician, and a huge influence on me. First saw him play live in 1996, final time in 2022. Rest in peace.

BBC radio drama is in grave danger. Without it we may lose the next generation of writing talent Hundreds of hours of original plays have been cut from the corporation’s programming in recent years. If the trend continues, a valuable training ground for writers will be lost

β€œBut the small single play that allows a writer to be themselves or rather – crucially – to become themselves is increasingly rare. A writer’s loss is an audience’s loss too…”

One of my first pieces for Short Cuts in 2012 was 'Can't Rewind The Past': soundcloud.com/listentostev...

I've made loads more since then, right up until the most recent series. Falling Tree enabled me - URGED me - to be more creative, more experimental, more risky.

So sad it's leaving Radio 4.

Thanks Saul, that's kind of you to say. And that fascinating rhyming slang connection with "birdlime" which I think you pointed out today, gets a mention in Side A of the mixtape!

BBC Radio 4 - Look At What You Could Have Won A reappraisal of the 80s TV quiz Bullseye, asking what we've lost and what we've become.

After we made the Bullseye doc, James and I plotted more projects. Even when he was really ill, he kept the ideas coming. He had so much to give.

(He also acquired the vintage Bendy Bully shown here, and insisted I keep it, which I have. He was kind like that.)

Hello. I've returned from holiday to re-emerge here on bluesky... and to learn that James McMahon has died, at the sickeningly young age of 44. James hosted the Radio 4 doc we made about the TV darts quiz 'Bullseye' in 2021. James was hugely talented, hugely creative, a joy to work with. RIP.
