Juan Pierre was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 1998. In 1999, he played for the Asheville Tourists. In 140 games, he hit .320 with 55 RBIs and 66 stole bases.

In 1972, 22 year old Mike Schmidt played 131 games for the Eugene Emeralds before beginning his Hall of Fame career with Phillies on September 12. In that time, he hit. 291, with 26 homers and 91 RBIs.

In his second season of pro ball in 1978, Dave Righetti appeared in 13 games for the Tulsa Drillers. During a game against Midland on July 16, he struck out 21 batters in a 9 inning game. A record that still stands.

In 1951, Bob Turley of San Antonio struck out 22 in a 16 inning game.

Today's franchise collection #capoftheday is the Knoxville Smokies.

They began in 1970 as the Knoxville Sox, changing to the Blue Jays in 1980. In 1993 they adopted the Smokies name, changing to the Tennessee Smokies in 2000. In 2025, they reverted back to the Knoxville Smokies.

Before beginning his Hall of Fame career, Cal Ripken Jr. played 161 games for the Charlotte O's in 1979 and 1980. He hit. 266 while driving in 86. The O's won the Southern League championship in 1980.
