It does so much that is really cool on paper! Though in execution it doesn't particularly feel that great to work with. I absolutely see the vision and I appreciate that, but it demands you to play a very specific way or else it's a slog.
It's definitely interesting the way Johto handles it, it's different and that's cool! But if you're not in a situation where you're able to treat it like a life sim, then it falls flat.
Thinking about Johto again, and I can appreciate its attempt at the whole life sim thing, but I'm not sure it works very well for Pokémon as a series. I like Pokémon having some amount of dailies of course, but I think Johto games lean way to hard into it.
