I've saved this screenshot because it makes me LOL every time I see or think of it. Henry is supposed to "snort," but apparently he's snotting everywhere. JFC, Henry, use a tissue.

This family is deleted here daily, and spends so much energy just trying to reach out to us. Ffs our taxes did this. Don't just scroll past.
Some great write ups on language learning, why Duolingo sucks, and what you can do instead:

Hey all.
Smashwords Sale is running a few more days and I'm interested in picking up a book or two to add to my TBR.
I'm particularly interested in queer romantasy but open to anything that fucks with genre tropes.
If you have stuff in the sale or know of someone who does, let me know!
Sorry for sharing the whole opening to page 97 of Healing's Whisper.
I couldn't pick a line. Too tired I guess.πͺ
Also, I don't mind if anyone feels like judging.
βDad, you don't know me or her,β Lawcket answered, his voice touched with something strange.
From page 9 of my android WIP.
βAre you even awake?β
Andrew put the towel on a rack. βYes, sir.β How to explain daydreaming to a man who thought he was a piece of furniture, at best.
βGood. Help me get dressed.β
Iberto let himself relax into the comfort his goddess offered. The Great Goddess demanded much of him but also gave. If she believed him worthy, he would find a way to prove her right.

Went with 'news' instead of media. Very loosely related, but closest I could get.
Thank you notes from students who received SAT study materials, expressing relief that their parents wonβt have to stress and wonβt have to choose between study guides and food.
If youβre ever thinking βIβd like to get some letters in the mail in a couple of months that will make me cry,β I highly recommend going onto donorschoose.org and sending a few bucks to a teacher in an underfunded school.
You're welcome! Enjoy your exploration.
You're supposed to read it and go 'what does that have to do with this guy's daughters?' Then the last line resolves that question -- the generals are setting up a comparison.
Hayao Miazaki is a master of the form.
The daughters of (someone) are very beautiful.
The elder daughter is sixteen and the younger one is fourteen.
Throughout history, generals (daimyΕs) killed the enemy with bows and arrows. The daughters of Itoya kill with their eyes.
The third line, abuot the generals is the twist.
... Something out of left field, as it were. And the conclusion is required to merge the beginning and the twist together in a way that makes sense of both of them working together.
My fave example is a short four line poem. I don't remember the exact words, but it went something like...
The important thing is that 'twist' here is very different from what we think of as a twist in English literature. In English literature, a twist is something that disproves what came before. In Kishotenketsu, a twist is something that seems like it doesn't relate to what came before...
Kishotenketsu is a Japanese style of... it's not just a plot, it's a structure that is used in everything from poetry to business meetings. but I know it best as a plot structure.
It's a four part structure -- introduction, expansion, twist, conclusion.

Not advice exactly, but learning about kishotenketsu plots (and its many relatives in other Asian countries) was the first... support? evidence? affirmation?... something... that I didn't need to center conflict in my stories and gave me confidence to write how I wanted.
Chibi drawing of a lesbian couple. One is a knight wearing armor with short hair and the other is a siren with long hair. They are sitting on a rock by the shore.
At a crossroads with The Sirenβs Knight on editing, but in a good way! Should it be kept as a more epic fantasy or a cozy fantasy series? Thereβs a dragon either way lol! Adorable Esther and Adele art by @theartside.bsky.social

belief in luck or fate
Iberto doesn't believe in fate as-such, but he has met the god of luck and gained his blessing.
Becareful asking the blessing of Asher the Chancemaker, though. He is the godde of both good and bad luck, and you never know which you will get.

Three things I forgot this morning:
Med
Hydrate
Stretch.
Doing them now. Maybe do one yourself?
A young child with closed eyes wearing a face mask pulled over their mouth.
Young boy crying with a mask hanging below his chin. He is lying on a bed wearing a black shirt and pulling at a blanket.
My son Ahmad has been diagnosed with a very serious virus, and his test results are extremely bad. His condition is getting worse, and I canβt save him alone. We urgently need Β£200 to buy his medicine before itβs too late. Please help me save my child ππ

Wrote about 1000 words on Smear. Was hoping for more, but running out of steam.
Last lines:
Iberto approached the room dedicated to Asher the Chancemaker cautiously. He hadn't spoken with Montu since the former monkβs Calling, and that conversation had gone as well as it had only because of Kira
For those of you who might be confused by this in isolation: thereβs a long-standing tradition of claiming that trans women are βactuallyβ just feminine boys so everyone should stop transing them & support feminine boys, which is of course an absolute crock of shit for many reasons, including this:
