Because it’s shiny!
I put mine away 15 or so years ago. But I put it away, not threw it away.

A just started cross stitch. The words “rather ask my cat than” appear in the middle, and a partly stitched chonky gray cat is to the left.
Metallics. Good luck; I will never touch them again, and this time I mean it.
Finally started this. Wanted to start last week, but a universal rule of cross stitch is when you’re getting your stuff together, there’s always one color missing.

If you aren’t supporting trans people then it’s only a matter of time before nobody’s supporting *you,* no matter what happens to us.
Two small stacks of cross stitch books sit on a kitchen table. The right pile is topped by something Halloweeny. The left pile has a fairy girl kneeling atop a mushroom on the cover. A rag doll cat is crouching behind the stack. It was apparently important to him that we could see the corner of the second magazine. The words “Granny Squares” is now partly visible.
I’ve made mistakes; frogging has happened. A lot. So nothing worth showing for #WIPWednedsay. 😢
But I think I found the pattern my Aunt wants. This is my pile of distractions. Yeti says hi. He’s also a distraction.
I’m trying to make original patterns and stitch some of the neat things see you creative stitchsky people make.
… don’t get distracted … don’t get distracted …
I’m going to get distracted, aren’t I?

Three stacks of cross-stitch books sit in a kitchen table.
Many years ago, I inherited my grandmother’s cross-stitch books. One of my aunts just asked me to find one specific pattern. It’s in here somewhere.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL
YOU CAN GET EVERY DISCWORLD TOME ON EBOOK FOR LESS THAN THE COST OF A SUBWAY FOOTLONG COMBO.
USUALLY GETTING EVERY SINGLE BOOK LEGALLY IS LIKE 400+
NOT.

A cross stitch of an orange fox with too many tails. There are 9 distinct shapes picked out in backstitch, but it’s hard to see because it should have been done in a darker color. To its right is mirrored version of the same fox, but it is unfinished.
Didn’t get a lot of time to move the needle this week, but this little buddy is coming along. Made a lot of alterations to my pattern as I stitched, but if I try to frog a fox, I’ll just confuse the issue.

It's my birthday later this month, so I just bought myself a present. I'll probably add more cats.
One of my fur babies is nicknamed "Big Stupid." I'd still trust him over ChatGPT, or any other bullshit AI.
An unfinished cross stitch on a piece of scrap Aida. It is orange, and has creepy hollow holes where the eyes will go. In the lower right corner is a specialty fiber. Also known as a cat hair.
Back to little guys for a little bit.
And signed up for the Steotchalong, because it’s not like I don’t have enough ongoing projects.

This pattern has 83 colors. No, it’s not too many. My dream is to one day make something ridiculously huge that uses every color DMC makes.
The real question is, who lives in this house? I have some ideas, but need to sculpt something.

A finished cross stitch on whiteish fabric. Someone has gone and made a cozy house in an old stump. A stone walkway leads to a red door. To the left is a round window with blue curtains. There’s a shelf fungus growing above it like an awning, a window box full of little mushrooms, and lot of medium-sized ones out front. Above the door is a mushroom emblem, and a mailbox is to the side. The top to the stump is covered with more mushrooms of various shapes, sizes, and colors. A pink morel-ish shaped one has an octagon window. All of the mushrooms are spotted with various unrealistic colors. From the house’s right side grow two long stemmed mushrooms, twisted around each other. One is purple. The other is brownish yellow with a wide flat top covered in a multitude of colorful spots. The crooked triangle chimney sticks out of its top, but there’s no smoke. Whoever lives here apparently really REALLY loves mushrooms.
It took 2 days to do the backstitch, and all the fiddly 1/4 and 3/4 stitches were worth it. None of these mushrooms are realistic, but this is a made up magic house from Fantasylandia, so what is realistic?

A mostly finished cross stitch on whiteish fabric. Ridiculously colored mushrooms cover an old stump. Someone has made a house here, with a bright red door and a round window. Everything is blurry and indistinct because it’s waiting for the backstitch.
Finished the main stitching last night. Now all that remains is the backstitch. There’s a lot, but I’m weird and like doing backstitch.

A partly finished cross stitch on white(ish) Aida. Numerous colorful mushrooms and shelf fungus grow from a stump. I admit, it doesn’t look much like a stump yet, but give it time. There’s a round window with a bright blue curtain, and a window box… with more mushrooms in it.
I managed to get some decent progress on this piece. The projects I’m neglecting in favor of this one are looking at me, impatiently.

Four cats, three tuxedos and a ninja, sit in a sunbeam.
Have some kitties. Look at them. They’re just happy to sit in the sunbeam. They don’t worry about anything, unless I sleep in and they want their breakfast.

The masked goons of a comic book supervillain are disappearing and murdering people in the streets, and I’m just posting cross stitch.
Insomnia and cross stitch is how I deal with stress. I did 4 1/2 hours last night.
At least your last 18 was super bright, cute, and colorful. I’m grateful I can still work on 14 count.
These three fruity ones are not my original designs, but are assembled out of bits and pieces from patterns I inherited from my grandmother. It’s one of the projects I used to learn how to use PCStitch in the first place.

Five cross stitch bookmarks are in a row on a single piece of fabric. From left to right, Otters in Love by Samantha Lane Textiles. Then two pears, two apples, and three plums, all hanging from leafy branches. On the far right is Little Grey Cells from Darling & Whimsy Designs.
Might as well share these, too. The left and right are from Spellbound Stitches V5. Otters in Love by Samantha Lane, which I’ve shown before; and Little Grey Cells by Darling & Whimsy, which is now finished. The middle three are something I made many years ago, and left to languish in a box.

I like the way you did the edging, but miss being able to work on 18 count.
A partly finished cross stitch on white(ish) Aida. Various mushrooms appear with blorbs of bright blue around them. Everything is blurry and indistinct as it awaits the backstitch.
Yes, it took weeks, but I did finish the pattern for that mushroom covered stump house. Stitching time will depend on how distracted I get by more bookmarks and little guys.

Here’s a partly finished bookmark from the Spellbound Stitches collab. It’s Little Grey Cells from Darling & Whimsy Designs. Whenever my dice let me finish this, I’ll start assembling a bunch of bookmarks.

20 different little cross stitch charms rest on a table. There is a collection of magic potions, wizard spellbooks, and nerdy D&D dice. They’ve all got a double line of hand stitching around their borders. A double loop jump ring is sewn into the top of each, with a Christmas ornament hook attached. These had been used on a Christmas tree in a cat-filled home. They are covered in the specialty fibers known as cat fur.
Time to put away my kitties’ favorites new toys. These have been undergoing trial-by-cat, and have passed.
I got the patterns from this Etsy shop, but the idea of what to do with them was mine.

The picture depicts an unfinished cross stitch. Most of a book shelf is finished. Purple claws, a foot, and a bit of dragon tail is at the top. The entire thing is still missing backstitch, so the details are still undefined.
I’ll share my progress on this one today. I swear there will be a dragon; just need to finish the bookcase first. And work on three or four other projects…

The picture shows three finished cross stitches on red fabric. On the left are two gray axolotls. They’re friendly little guys and are sticking out their bright pink tongues. They are perfect mirrors of each other, but are not perfectly lined up on the fabric. On the right is a little potion bottle. A purple liquid is inside a round bottle with a green vine wrapped around it. I don’t know what this potion does, but I’m not drinking it. The axolotls were backstitched with two strands, but the potion with only one.
I finished the axolotls a few days ago, but had to finish out the fabric. So I made up a little magic potion bottle. I didn’t want to waste this fabric scrap, and this is what I came up with. Also, there’s a reason I did a mirrored version of the axolotl.

The picture shows a cross-stitch. On the left is a grey axolotl. It’s is definitely more cartoony than realistic. It’s sticking out a bright pink tongue. On the right is a mirrored version of the same axolotl, but it is unfinished. Still missing are the eyes, the gills, and the backstitching. The entire thing is stitched on bright red aida fabric.
I had to take a couple of weeks off, not entirely by choice. So to get something done between bigger projects I started making a little guy. My son says he looks like a fakemon.

The picture shows a pencil sketch on the right, and a partly colored version of the same sketch on a tablet on the left. The doodle is of a tree stump with a door and a round window. Mushrooms grow from and around it. There’s an off-kilter mailbox, and a chimney atop one of the mushrooms. The coloring is incomplete and amateur. I’m still learning how to use Procreate.
Supposed to be Christmas stitching. Instead, I’m designing a new pattern. Also, obligatory fuck AI, I made this myself.
Plus tweezers, for the specialty fibers.

I’ve spent the last 2 weeks assembling something I finished, instead of letting it languish in a box for years. But it’s not ready yet. So here’s the start of something from the Echo and Mine Etsy shop.
